    Dealer Transfer Fee

    Hey guys,

I'm talking to local FFL dealer, who is giving us a Calguns discount by not charging the Dealer Transfer fee if we buy from him.

If we buy a gun online, get it shipped to him, his fee would be $30.

QUESTION - I thought the dealer transfer fee is charged only by the recipiant FFL dealer (the one who accepts the gun, on buyer's behalf and does your DROS). What I don't understand is, how does a FFL Dealer say he's not going to charge dealer transfer fee IF we BUY from him? Seller doesn't charge a transfer fee anyway, does he?

Please explain to me, if I am misunderstanding this...
    Thanks!

If you are buying the gun online and having it shipped to him he is the receiving FFL.

I'm confused about what you are confused about.
You, you, and you: Panic. The rest of you, come with me.
Incoming fire has the right of way.

OP the answer is in your own writing (or the way the dealer said to you) as in " I'm talking to local FFL dealer, who is giving us a Calguns discount by not charging the Dealer Transfer fee if we buy from him.

Of course he is not lying to you. he is telling you the truth, that is If you buy from him he WILL NOT CHARGE you Dealer Transfer fee.

so I am also confused by what you are confused about.

If you buy FROM him, it's a PURCHASE, not a TRANSFER.
If you buy from someone else and have it shipped to your local FFL, that is a TRANSFER and it's customary for your receiving FFL to charge a fee.

Apparently, only you got what I am saying...

That's exactly what I was saying - If I buy from HIM, it's purchase. And there's no dealer fees associated with a purchase. True??

(Dealer fees are only associated with transfers)

No everyone got what you're saying they are just confused by your question since dealers never (at least none that I've ever heard of) charge a transfer fee for a firearm you purchase from their inventory. When you purchase from someone else and "transfer" it to a FFL they charge a dealer transfer fee to compensate them for the time required to accept, hold and process your purchase from someone else.

If he claims to be giving you a discount by not charging a transfer fee for something you plan to purchase from him I'd recommend finding a different FFL. Either he is waving an erroneous fee that they charge or he's lying to so he can close more business.

                Not necessarily.

Some dealers build their fee into the gun price. Some itemize it separately. Some may do both.

And a sale IS a transfer, though not the kind you seem to be thinking of.

There should just be Sales Tax and DROS fees.
