I don't know if I'm the only one but I can't stand when people call standard capacity magazines high capacity magazines. I even hear it from firearm enthusiast, even more so here in California (and other non friendly 2A states). Is it because we have had to deal with neutered magazines for so long that we are actually starting to believe that anything over a 10 round magazine is a High Cap. Let's please start a moment now to start calling things by their proper name. For example, if the firearm comes standard (in free states) from the manufacture with a 15, 17, 30, etc. round magazine, these are "standard capacity magazines", not high caps. The 10 round magazines we have to use here in California are "neutered magazines". Now granted I still refer to magazines with a greater capacity then that of what the manufacturer typically sends as high capacity magazines. Such as, SureFire 60 round and 100 round magazines, these are true "high capacity magazines". I know this not a big deal but I feel everyone is becoming numb to our rights being deminished. So please everyone when you are at the range, the gun shop, talking firearm politics, or just engaging in daily conversation, start using these proper terms and politely correct someone that misuses them. By doing this not only are you retraining your own subconscious to remember the true difference between high capacity, standard capacity and neutered magazines, but you are also providing that knowledge to the others. While there are many other atacks on our 2nd Amendment Right, it is vital we don't let ourselves subside to even the smallest of infringements.

Stop Using "High Capacity Magazine" Moment

That right there is the point where I gave up attempting to read your wall of text, so I'll just guess what the rest says and reply accordingly.
We know. They're "standard" capacity(also a misnomer in some applications). Yes, it's a matter of word games from the left. Most people don't care. As far as practical discussion in CA due to how the penal code is written(and it can matter when wanting to keep your rear or someone else's out of jail), you could simply use "large capacity magazine" instead. -

I'd be happy if people just stopped calling magazines, 'clips'. I always try and use the term 'standard capacity' when referring to magazines we cannot get here.
While we're at it, we also need to stop calling compliance parts like magazine locks, 'bullet buttons'.Last edited by SkyHawk; 01-24-2016, 9:40 PM.Comment

What's with all of the noobs racing into the stable where the dead horses were dragged off to the taco stands years ago?

Sorry, but "high capacity" magazines are a legal definition here in California, regardless of what the rest of the would calls them. There are bigger fish to fry.
Just call them "limited capacity fun disbursement devices" and not get stressed out over details.LASD Retired

To be reminded of these things is good. There are people who never thought of these things and threads like this can be helpful. Think of the 18 yr old who likes guns but only heard "high capacity" all his life. Us old timers who have been there done that shouldn't be too upset someone else brings it up for the millionth time. I can say "GCA of '68, will you shut up about it? Been hearing about it all my life since the day it passed!" That won't help anyone though.

The proper legal term in the CA PC is "large-capacity magazine".Comment

So...since "Man" and "Wife" is no longer available on CA marriage certificates and "Man and Wife" is no longer a legal term, what are you married to now?

Right - that's anything 11 or more.
A standard 1911 magazine is 7 rounds - more than that might be 'high capacity', but 8, 9, or 10 would not be a CA 'large-capacity' magazine.
'Standard capacity' is weapon dependent. 'Large-capacity' has a (stupid) legal definition. Use the legal term where it matters, in CA legal discussions.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

I've got four high capacity magazines for my Shield. One holds 8 rounds, and three hold 9 rounds... each holds one more than they did when they came from the factory.
But none of these magazines are illegal, and none are "Large Capacity Ammunition Feeding Devices"- Rich
