* Handgun Light / Light laser - Ebay *

Hi guys,

I wanted to get a light or a light laser combo for my Sig P226 (9mm). I know a lot of you 'invest" into high quality products. But given my budget and my need isn't for a very high quality light that's $100+.

I have been looking at some on Ebay for under $20 - it's just a light (for my need). I don't want to offend anyone who buys expensive lights. But does anyone have experience/knowledge about such inexpensive lights, and if they can suggest a good one. Definitely not looking for something with cords.

Keep in mind that lots of stuff on Ebay is intended for airsoft products and aren't build to withstand recoil. You will get what you pay for at that pricepoint.

Sorry I don't have any experience with a brand to recommend but perhaps you might look for something with a lot of reviews on Amazon or elsewhere to help refine your search. Just make sure it is being reviewed whilst used on a real firearm.

I don't know anything about those lights. But I do know a thing or two about manufacturing from my own business.

My guess is the light will function fine. Usually the percentage of defects on such products will be higher as quality control is limited and sacrificed for mass production. But if you get a good one, it will probably function fine on its own.

Where you'll run into trouble is when you shoot the gun with the light/laser attached. You'll may find that flashlight could flicker or even shut off due to poor quality internal contacts. You'll most definitely find that the laser won't hold zero. It will travel significantly enough to render it useless. That's where I see the biggest problem occurring. Even if the light stays functioning, the laser will most certainly lose zero. And if you're relying on it rather than your sights, you could be in trouble.

For HD, I would spend the extra money. For a toy that could be fun at the range or for plinking, I'd buy it. Under $20, what can you lose?

One more thing to think about is future holster purchases. You may be stuck with a generic uncle mikes holster or other "soft" holster if you go with an ebay light.

I have to turn people away constantly because I can't make holsters for guns with random off brand lights. Most holster manufacturers will only carry a few common brand name lights.

You can find an ok between $50 and $100, i would stay away from the $20 wonderlights. my family member bought a cheap laser light combo a few years back, got it zeroed and then watched and laughed as the laser would do a full clockwise rotation about 3 inches in diameter every time he shot. I also bought a mega cheap flashlight put it in a scope ring and had some night time fun with my shotgun. round 1 was fine round 2 was fine ... by round 20 every time i took a shot it would blink on and off.

i wont pull the you get what you pay for crap as that's not always the case in the gun world, more often then not you pay far more than you have to just to look like an operator. there are budget lights out there you just have to look...

Unless you enjoy wasting your hard-earned $, just save up until you can afford a decent light like a Streamlight TLR-1 or a decent laser like a Crimson Trace CMR-201. Sure, you're going to spend around $100 but at least you'll have a product that's proven and is backed by a decent warranty.

You can buy a reliable Streamlight TLR-3 for around $70-ish, and don't have to worry about it crapping out on you first time you shoot it

I second this. Amazon is good for deals too. I got a TLR-3 for my 1911 and it works wonders. I've since put it on a different pistol and got an Inforce APL for the 1911. I also highly recommend the APL, more than the TLR-3, actually, but it's a little more pricey. I think I paid $120 for it on eBay.

yep Amazon for around 75-80 depending on shipping. I own 2 and have never had an issue. You can also catch them on sale at optic planet sometimes
