Concern over having to downsize the collection...

I'm sure I'm not alone in that I bought way more firearms that I should have at one point or another, but I am rather happy with my collection for the most part. On to the point, I'm buying a house and the extra money I could get from selling some of my extras would help.

I'm not concerned about selling my Glock gen 3 or the USP, I can replace those any day of the week. But with the impending bills and the possibility they might pass, I am slightly worried about selling my AR-10 and Tavor, among others, and not being able to replace them down the road when funds are less tight.

I've considered selling off other items but to be honest none of them would net me nearly as much cash as the firearms, and I'd take a much larger hit % wise selling my xbox and then buying a new one later (just as an example).

What would you do in my situation? I should add that as far as home defense and SHTF, those will remain covered even after the sell off. It's more about maintaining a collection.

Keep the special ones. The ones like Glocks, Ruger Blackhawk, etc. that are found in Turners and every other shop are a may be. You will loose money if you sell.
How much would you generate selling? Add that to the mortgage and it probabely makes a .95 cents difference in your monthly payment.
If you had bought enough Gen4 glocks during the SSE, you could have paid for the house by the profit from selling those.

Seems really to be a no brainer, you want something else more than you want these or you don't.

If selling makes it so you can do WHAT YOU WANT, then like I say, it's a no brainer.

If it makes NO difference to be able to do it, or not, then don't do it, period.

Seems simple, but there is probably more to this story than you'd let on, so good luck Op.

Ask yourself this, in ten years which of these (objects) is has the most importance ?

Also if married, talk to your wife, as she is 50% of this deal, others may disagree with me here.

Unfortunately, I had a history of being an anti pre 2014. Friend finally converted me to true freedom. I didn't even know what sse was until November 2014 and I had my coveted trp full rail finally so I used it on that instead. I actually am normally well off, but the stupid stock market has taken more money than I expected lately which is the reason for the cash money situation.

If you can wait for your stocks to recover, do that, unfortunately housing will also rise, but hey, home costs are little hi right now anyway, it could change however.

Is it better to sell you firearms or stock ? my $$ on guns if you have a proven winner in markets.

I'm also planning on another home, but don't think I'm selling any firearms though, ya never know ? Good luck Op.

Just a thought: Maybe consider selling your AR upper(s), but keep the lower(s). You'll be able to sell the upper for anywhere between 40-75% of what you'd get for the complete rifle, plus you don't have to worry about future legislation screwing you up. You can buy a new upper online any time you want. Heck, if the price is right, I might even buy your AR-10 upper off you.

Also, look into selling ammo before firearms. Sometime we forget how much ammo we have - many of us have WAY more money invested in ammo stockpile than in guns, and the resale price is generally about the same as what you paid for it, plus or minus. Ammo will be far easier to replace than firearms in the foreseeable future. I needed some money recently, so I sold 1200 rounds for about $600 here on CalGuns. Now that the money issue is resolved, I can (and probably will) go replace it for about the same price, no harm no foul. A lot cheaper than taking out a loan!

Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

^^^Yeah, if Newsome doesn't get his way.

Right now I'd say keep the AR stuff (uppers and lowers) sell any revolvers, .22s, lever action, pump action, etc. if you have to sell. This stuff you can replace. Keep the ammo and semi-autos which may become more difficult to obtain.
sigpicC'mon man, shouldn't we ban Democracks from Cal-Guns? Or at least send them to re-education camps.

I've had quite a few expenses come up recently. Fortunately, haven't had to liquidate any guns yet and hoping it remains that way. I have though, sold off memorabilia instead. Some of it was profitable, some I took a loss on.

I would say try like heck to keep any and all firearms if possible. Things could change in a big way this year. If you have to sell something, go with cockedandglocked's suggestion about the uppers or sell accessories. Those are smarter moves IMO.

Ya, but that election isn't for another 2 1/2 years. That's a lot of time to buy back whatever ammo he sells. It's worth it if he's buying a house - His next 2 tax refunds from his mortgage interest deductions before the election would likely be enough to buy it all back three-fold.

Well thankfully this idea for cash was less about the mortgage, and just about furnishing the house and getting some of the more needed things right away, like a real sofa, bedroom set, but I guess I can wait on some of that. The way I saw it was I have a Scar 17s, which I like better than my AR-10, and more or less does the same thing since I'm not an operator. Figured I'd get rid of the less used stuff, for stuff that might help my every day. I would actually already be doing this if I wasn't worried about the California legislature.

Edit: I'll probably wait a week or two, as long as I can, and see how the stocks recover. Thank you everyone for the very helpful advice. As for ammo, I actually have let my stocks dwindle quite a bit since I saw the house purchase coming up and prioritized putting money aside for that. So right now, other than .22, I have under 500 rounds of various calibers, with my handguns only having personal defense ammo in less than 100 quantity. So I'd rather not sell off what little I have.

Edit 2: Anyone know if there is a limit to how many firearms I can sell via PPT per year? I think I remember it being 6 before I have to register as an FFL?

OP, which guns do you not care much about or have duplicates? I would sell those.

Up to 5 transactions for handguns. You can sell multiple handguns per transaction. No specific limit for long guns.

Those all seem easily replaceable and bring in a chunk of cash. I sold my first firearm, M&P 15 Sport. Kind of miss it, but it's not the end of the world. Objectively speaking, if I didn't like shooting the gun, I'd get rid of it, even if it's my first. For me, I liked shooting the AR-15, but I hardly used it, because my indoor range didn't allow it.
