    Ahh... 10rd SAIGA clone... beautiful

NOT mine, but boy they sure are pretty.

I'm building mine with the S12 forend/handguard, which I think looks much nicer and less "assault" even than the one shown above.

    I'm using this .308 Trigger:

To put the .308 trigger in, you simple have to enlarge the existing trigger hole slightly and install it as any regular AK FCG. No transfer bar and 2nd pivot like the 762x39 SAIGA.

The best part is its 100% reversible if you go out of state or zombies invade unexpectedly...

The Stock and PG go right back on for legal fun in AZ/NV/OR, and when in CA you can still use your regular AK detachable magazines, handy for those with legal preban hicaps/drums. :thumb:

You can put one together as a SAIGA clone for less than $350...

USA made receiver = $50 (I would use an 80% laser flat and save the DROS and extra $$... I saw 2 for $30 delivered w/rails on gunsnet last week)
Romanian parts kit = $100 (some are as low as $80 right now)
    G2 FCG = $50 (I'd buy a used one)
    US gas piston = $20 (hotbarrel @ gunco.net)
    US magazine = $20-25
US made polymer handguard = $35
    SAIGA stock/FCG = $20-50

Total with refinishing = $325-350 if you paint it yourself.

Not bad for a CALI LEGAL detachable magazine SAIGA clone... Real good compared to some options for a lot more $$$.

That trigger looks like what I was thinking. There has to be a way to weld and extend the factory trigger back through the pistol grip hole, for a mod-less conversion. Make a snap-in trigger guard which clamps to the old trigger guard, and you have yourself a drop-in yet fully reversible CA_AK trigger conversion!

Would it be possible to do something like this with a SA-85 parts kit? What sort of receiver would be required, and how would it have to be modified?

Same receiver, use the trigger and stock above, figure out a way to mount the trigger guard and you're good to go. The .308 trigger goes thru the original trigger hole area, you just need to extend it to the back a little farther.

IT would still allow the original PG to be used if you so choose when/if it's ever legal or you go out of state, just need to swap the mag release/trigger guard and trigger assembly.

          Good luck.

I would only buy a VEPR .308 Rifle (the saiga comes in 308 also) instead of doing it to a regular ak. it would increase the price signicantly. Considering a saiga in 308 is $300-400.

I wish the DOJ would just say they are illegal or they aren't illegal.
