    Interesting trip to USI range

Went to USI for my first outing with the new AR Pistol.

The RO wasn't sure what to make of it, other than asking me not to bring it back. He said they had a rule about rifles not having a stock.

I informed him that it was DROSed as a pistol, and was not allowed to have a stock, as that would make it an SBR.

After he went to explain to the gentlemen to our right why it was okay for members of our group to possess 30rd mags with the registered assault weapons, he came back by to check it out again.

I asked him to reconsider. He told me why they had the rule- a story about some guy knocking his teeth out with a pistol grip shotgun, and said I should talk to the head rangemaster.

Long story short- the head rangemaster told me all they required was aimed fire. No shooting from the hip. I said, "I won't shoot from the hip. See ya next weekend."

Yes it is a "useless gun" but I like it...

So did you fire it on the rifle or pistol lane?

they don't allow rifle ammo on the pistol range because people were shooting out the rails either on purpose or on accident. so as an alternative, they have a wooden frame that's freestanding in the middle of the rifle range on the very left. this can get shot up and they rebuild it.

I shot my pistol grip shotgun there all the time until about 3 months ago. I heard the "teeth knocked out" story too. One idiots ruins it for the rest of us.

I was hoping they had the 25yd targets but they were missing. I learned that I should shoot the gun I am trying to sight in first... It took 15rds to get it in the black because I couldn't tell where it was hitting.

You could shoot your .223 ammo at the stand-up part of the rifle range closest to the RO office. They have the portable wood target frames there and usually an old guy or two shooting 1 round per hour on his super duper scoped target pistols at that spot.

I was just at USI today on my lunch break..was that you they were yelling at? just kidding...

Wish I was there to see it! Funny, I was at USI on Friday shooting a C&R pistol down at the far left of the pistol range. A group of four gang bangers close to my right were taking turns shooting on one 4" 357 S&W. A real mix of high powered stuff and 38's. Sounded like a steel shoot with them alternating hitting the metal target frame and the dirt mostly. I had to leave for saftey reasons after only getting about 100 rounds down range. Not a safe enviornment and it was gett'n cold. -g
