    Shooting in the rain

I have shot in the rain, maybe 2-3 times at least. Bot for very long but I have. On my own property, shooting..starts to rain. .go for a while more then back to fire place.

I have a pistol course this weekend. Its raining. .overhead cover is minimum besides the stetson style cowboy hat that will keep my ears dry. Shooting a g19 so it can swim if needed.

There will be draw by conclead...so will be a bit different with a rain slicker on. Looks to be fairly wet and windy this Saturday.

Anyone already shoot a full day in rain?

Yes, I have in the past... depends how much rain and what type of training you will be doing. I believe keeping your ammo dry is more important than keeping your firearm dry in my opinion.

Dont care at all about pistol , no way it will rust in that time.

Ammo ...I dont think I have any sealed pistol rounds like some of my rifle ammo.

Not too worried about ammo..magazine will be in pocket and undersome cover...but something to remember.

          Maybe I should frog lube all.my ammo..hehehe)

I've done it before, with centerfire rifles.

Somehow, I thought I would see vapor trails in the rain, or something like one.

Oh, well. It was still a fun, rare day at the range.

Did it in the Army many times with zero problems...drizzle or deluge, never mattered.

The ammo is fine as long as you don't submerge it for an extended period of time.

Dissemble and spray oil on you pistol, it will rust if dry (except for the plastic parts, lol).

If it's just a pistol, no big deal.
Go to a good outdoors supply place like cabelas or bass pro and get a "wading jacket" designed for use with waders or a float tube.
It will be shorter than a normal rain jacket and have more access/flaps than a typical rain jacket.
It's more friendly for drawing a pistol as well.
I have used one for shooting 3gun matches in the rain for years with good results.

There were two students who were made out of sugar and melted away in the rain not to long ago on that particular range. Better watch-out.

Mud is usually the bigger problem when I've had to shoot in the rain.

I have shot clays for a few hours in the rain. Once your clothes become saturated and you accept that you and everything around you is wet, you can move on and focus on the shoot.

The worst part isn't being wet but being paranoid about rust and odc drying. cleaning and lubing every nook and cranny when you are done. I think I spent 4 or 5 hours, dry, cleaning and lubing my shotgun afterwards.
