Question About Colt 1911s. Not about Roster

Tried to ask about this in the roster discussions but am not sure anyone knows. So Colt has cancelled the XSE series, it's not online at Colt.com any longer though I'm sure many still are in retail channels outside CA. They didn't renew because they changed how they made them.

Does anyone know when they changed how they made them?

Has anyone compared the newer models, after the change in manufacturing with older models to know which are better?

And why would the company change its manufacturing process and then cancel the line? Is there a replacement for the XSE coming?

I'll probably have to hit the Colt forum for this, but thought I'd start here. I do wonder if Colt might try micro stamping and be the first? Personally I hope not because I don't want to see it started and become the norm.

they cancelled the XSE due to slow sales.

They didn't change anything mechanical on the 1911's. In other threads it was mentioned they changed a process in how a part was manufactured (moved to CNC) which was enough for CA to claim it was no longer the same gun that was rostered. Process probably changed in 2015 since they were able to be renewed last year.

It's to bad. The XSE line is/was actually pretty nice.
There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

        Colt 1911's are niche pistol.

They cost significantly more relative to what they offer. Most don't have beaver tails, the manual safety is small, and most don't have front strap checkering.

I believe the only one that offers the beaver tail with front strap checkering is the Rail gun, then it's got that rail on it. So if you didn't want a rail, but wanted the checkering and larger safety then Colt isn't for you.

They also have a zillion permutations of the 1991 models, and the Model 70 models. They should either go with one or the other, and call it done.

There are just so many things that seem crazy with how incompetent Colt is managed. Competency is measured in the amount a company files for bankruptcy.

So when it comes to Colt and the Roster, it's a matter of being a poorly run company offering a product inferior to other 1911 options.
