It's a bunch of BS. If you look through the patent database, you'll see a bunch of "smart gun" patents out there and, guess what - none of those companies made any money. The reality is that the concept is flawed, and there are so many headwinds to gaining adoption that it's only good for getting government grants or investor money.

The only way to make money with anything gun-related is to make the gun work better at doing what it is designed to do. Adding anything that throws the possibility of false accept or false reject into the process of pulling the trigger is going to flop.

Gotta hand it to the kid for getting national attention, though. It's not easy to do - even with ideas that are truly valuable.

If someone wants to perfect this technology, awesome. You can't honestly say that it's not a cool concept. Practicality TBD. I could see some very specific scenarios where it could work, but current tech (such as biometric safes (which I wouldn't trust my life to)), are more practical.

Just don't make me use it, or use my tax dollars to fund it's development.
