    Featureless?

What does featureless mean and why would one build a gun in that fashion?

BIG question. Short answer: A featureless rifle is one without any of the evil features mentioned in the CA AW law. Check with cal guns wiki for the details. If a center fire rifle has a detachable magazine (i.e. no bullet button), then it CAN'T have any of the "evil features mentioned in the law.

Basically, in CA it's either a detachable mag with no pistol grip OR a pistol grip with a bullet button. Take your choice.

And of course, see the flowchart: http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf
ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

So if you don't have a pistol grip, you can have a detachable magazine without a bullet button?

If I install a muzzle break does it need to be threaded?

featureless means exactly that. No Evil features as listed above by emptybottle151. By having no evil features, no BB is needed.

it's not required, but I'd make sure it was attached in some manner that it can't easily fall off.

                  they listed the law above.

as an example, a standard Mini-14 would be a featureless gun.

this is also a featureless gun,

it has no pistol grip, the stock doesn't fold or collapse, it doesn't have a flash hider, etc.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

OP, featureless is the only way to fly here in CA. You can use your hi cap mags and drop them with a normal mag release.
Otherwise you are stuck with ten round mags and using a tool to remove the mag.

Featureless rifles exist for law abiding citizens to stay in the good graces of their masters. Other than to own as a curiosity, they serve no purpose in an actual American's arsenal.

Easy there! VERY unlikely that the OP has legal hi cap mags sitting in his garage for the last 15 years. Since he likely doesn't have (and can't legally get) Hi-caps, let's not get him excited. And IF he does, he'd better be sure NOT to put them into a non-featureless rifle.

just to add to what cal.bar said, you can use legally owned hi cap mags (if you have them). If you don't, featureless still lets you change out your 10 rd mags without needing a tool.
