    Nail gun .22 vs minimags

Ok, saw this on YouTube and found it educational, interesting and worthy of sharing. Using .22 pellets and .22 nail gun blanks and testing out the capability vs actual .22 caliber minimags.

Watch the video to see the results.

for about $35 you get 500 rounds.
About the same as regular .22 LR so no cost savings.
it's a slow, tedious process to do this.
Personally, I'd rather use a real muzzle loader.

.22 pellets are 14 grain, so...

brown: 1880 fps avg, 109 ft.lbs energy, 3.7 lbf momentum
green: 2323 fps avg, 167 ft.lbs energy, 4.6 lbf momentum
yellow: 2820 fps avg, 247 ft.lbs energy, 5.6 lbf momentum

velocity can vary from shot to shot by about 250 fps
I wouldn't call that good for accuracy...

minimags are about comparable to the green.
stingers and other extra high velocity rounds are about comparable to the yellow.

Watch the chrono video. He has a few pellets break inside the barrel.

Fun for giggles. Real .22 LR ammo still wins IMHO.

It might be better to use .22 calibre lead balls which are somewhat heavier and have a much smaller chance of breaking up in the barrel.
