Slick, but I don't think anyone would mistake it for a radio these days.

Wasn't there a cell phone gun developed somewhere not too long ago?

Too bad we can't have these in Calif. Would make a great addition to the BOB.

You could have one as long as it had a fixed magazine and was welded open *rolls eyes*

Seriously tho, a fold up 22LR like that would kick arse and would be legal as long as it was long enough (16" BBL)

Wasn't this featured in the a movie Robocop, I forget which one, with kid who had boombox that looked just like this?

                  Cool stuff.

But if I can have one I rather have MP5 in a brief case which can be fired unopened.

Wouldnt it be considered a handgun though? I bet it would pass the drop test.

Sam, was this in the late 80's(Dave Boatman's shop)? there are 10 of them, all transferable.

from April, 2000 Small Arms Review:

That's actually a M21 SMG, as used in Robocop 2.

here's an abbreviated version of the article:

According to the author, Capt. Monty Mendenhall, the M21 was designed by Utah Conner(called UC9, as a proof of concept) in the 70's. With Tim Bixler and later, Dave Boatman, they created and built the M21. Only 9 M21 and 1 UC9 was built before 5/19/86- the cutoff date of Hughes Admendment to HR4332 ended manufacturing of new, form 4 transferable, machine guns.

He goes on to say folding MG's aren't new. Swiss made them before WW2. After the war, France and Czech also made folding subguns. He then goes into details of their design and history.

Around the same time as Conner's UC9, Francis J. Warin also devloped a "stealth" subgun. ARES patented the Warin design in 1984. It was granted on 11/2/86- after the 10 M21/UC9 were built.

                        from ARES's patent, 4625621
Mendenhall goes on to disect the differences in design and function.

Mendenhall surmised the Russian company, DBFIE, copied the Warin design based on the patent. Included in the article is a copy of the sales brochure in 1990 with a sales price of $280USD.

Not if you made the BBL 16" long and the OAL 30"

It would be worthless here... in free states it could be made legally.

It won't fire when folded so its not a disguised gun...

I saw the radio gun in a Las Vegas gun show (SOF gunshow at the Sands). Even saw it fired at the range. Reminded me of a FA MAC SMG when fired.

Saw the same gun at the SOF convention around '93 at a firing line manufacturer's demo. It even had a retracting dummy antenna that was attached to it. It seemed to be reliable up to a certain point and afterwards it turned into a jamamatic.
