    DSG BCG Review

I recently purchased a DSG BCG because it was on sale for a little over $100. It is a nickel boron BCG so I figured I would give one a try and see what all the hype was about. I was under the impression that I was going to be able to wipe it clean with a rag after the range, which was not the case with this bolt. After shooting about 200 rounds of American Eagle 5.56 193 rounds through my Ar with this BCG, it was very dirty with a lot of buildup on the bolt. The carrier seemed to be burnt in certain sections as well. I could not wipe it clean even with the aid of CLP. Aftter about 25 mins of rigorous cleaning, this is how it looks.

Do I have unreasonable expectations Or is this just a cheap NB BCG?

I am a beginner/intermediate shooter and have a lot to learn so maybe it was something I did by giving into the hype. I think I like my stock BCG better because it cycles cleaner and doesn't seems as dirty.
    Any thoughts or ideas?
    Happy New years to everyone!

Looks fine to me. The NB coating might discolor but it's still coated. Keep shooting it and put it through its paces. 200 rounds through isn't nearly enough.

I guess I expected too much. This was one day at the range and it
Is brand new. I'll keep using it to see if I notice any difference.

Your right, It is fine. This discoloring is purely cosmetic but was unexpected. Is this what happens with all nickel boron?

For what it's worth, I am not saying it's a bad bolt. I just thought it was going to be cleaner but maybe it goes to show why I shouldn't fall for hype. I have more than 1000 rounds through my stock m&p 15 sport bolt and it is still running like a champ!

Yes NiB is known to stain and get discolored. If you want a pretty bcg that won't discolor get a chromed one.

Get it tin coated or tialn and it won't discolor.

I don't know what all the hullabulloo is about NB coated BCGs are.

If people were serious about coating a BCG with something that is truly wear resistant AND doesn't make you look like a Kansas city pimp or part of a cartel, they would use Titanium Carbon Nitride or Aluminum Titanium Nitride. It's the same stuff they coat carbide end mills with and that stuff doesn't wear off easily.

If this is normal with NiB than I am ok with it. Not to worried about it being pretty, I just like it clean and functional.

It would probably costs a hefty amount, seeing how you get what you pay for.

                        True.

So far my phosphate coated BCGs are holding up just fine and I don't have to worry about how pretty they look after I've fired only 20 rounds through it.

NiB has had problems with headspacing and flaking. I prefer melonited BCG's as those do clean up easily and have a harder surface without headspace problems.
