Alquist Arms in Turlock has a $2200 Wilson Combat 45 ACP on the shelf that's all but calling my name!! The money is in the bank but that's quite a leap. Well, I've paid over $2300 for a Freedom Arms Model 83 so its not like I've not been down this path before. Does anybody here own a Wilson? If so, how do you feel about the investment.

BIIIIIIIIG temptation!
Things usually turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out.Tags: None -
That depends on you. $2200 is a lot of money for one firearm. For me I went down the same road and got a Wilson. When I did I allready knew the 1911 platform was my favorite and the Wilson is about the best 1911 money can buy. If you don't like it you can sell it but you are going to loose about $500-600 after you pay tax and dros. I ran into hard times and put mine up for sale but thank god it did not sell. Good luck to you. Sammy -
I recommend buying it as I have yet to actually regret any of my gun purchases"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas JeffersonComment

For that money I'd get a true custom pistol and a Les Baer.NSDQComment

Les Baer, Ed Brown... Very good.
I used to shoot IDPA with a Wilsaon Combat dealer from the bay... his Wilson jammed more than any other 1911 ou there.
I have occasionally ordered Wilson pistols fro custoemrs over the past 8 years, the customer and myself were never inpressed with fit/finish and overall performance.
There is such a thing as a custom 1911 that is worth the money... Wilson, however does not make it.
Gallery of Guns.com has 20 models of Les Baer in stock and ready to ship.
Go to that website, look up Sierra Arms' price in Modesto...
Most of the Baer prices are at or under $2200.Comment

I have a Wilson Combat CQB. It's the only 1911 I own, so my basis for comparison is somewhat limited in that regard.
I did use the gun in a 4 day defensive handgun course. I had a couple of failures to feed, where the round would not quite chamber all the way. I imagine this wouldn't have happened if I had done a better job of keeping the chamber clean. There is probably a trade-off between accuracy and reliability, especially in the 1911 platform.
Overall I'm happy with the gun, and once I tumbled to its particular maintenance needs I had no further problems. BTW, the gun shipped with a stainless steel chamber brush.
