GREAT NEWS!
The Chairman (my wife) has given me the green light to turn our spare bedroom into a small workshop for guns/reloading ammo(eventually). I installed a heavy-duty storage rack over the weekend and located a sturdy basic wooden workbench at Home Depot that I'm thinking will be a great starting point for me. (see link below)
By all accounts the world bench is very strong and durable but needs sanding. I also imagine it would be best to seal at least the top of the bench with something given the presence of oils and solvents that might damage the wood.
This is my first time doing anything like this so I'm not sure what sealant to use. After doing a little research it looks like people are sealing bench tops with everything from garage floor paint to poly, to spray-on bed liner but nothing I can find talks specifically about what is good for gun work.
I'm hoping to get some advice from the CGN brain trust what you fellow DIYers use on your benches for gun work. Thanks in advance for your info.
