Through the years, I have taken a total of 9 liberal Democrats to the range, friends and family of mine and they all had a wonderful time. We shot handguns, ARs and 10/22s. They had a blast.

But they NEVER changed their political proclivities. They all voted for Obama TWICE. Not one went out and went thru the process of purchasing their own firearms. And they still have the same political makeup.

And they still ask when we can go shooting again.

Because I'm known as "the gun guy" in the family, I've taken LOTS of folks out shooting for the first time---many of the younger "tattooed" crowd actually find that they enjoy shooting and now own guns themselves! Always start 'em out with my old Remington Nylon 66 22lr rifle---functions 100% with most any high-speed 22 ammo and just can't seem to miss with that little rifle… After that, a 9mm pistol like my HK USPf (certainly the softest shooting 9mm pistol made) if their hands are large enough---or the smaller HK USPc 9mm if hand size is a problem.

Well they've said they want to setup a time to make a purchase .The friends wife wants a G42 bad so then I had to explain the whole roster mess to them which they replied "well that doesn't make sense". I explained how I SSE'd the Glock but that the laws changed. I informed her she can still get one through PPT but will pay a premium. Then I explained the whole "Assault Weapon", bullet button and standard capacity magazine issues and they just shook there head. I think they're finally seeing just how ridiculous these laws are. Like the saying goes when you and someone have conflicting ideas "Kill them with kindness" I like "Convert them with trigger time"!

Tagged for future reference. We should have a "how to take a new shooter out to the range" thread. Ideas on how to make it fun, etc.

                      Good goin' OP.

It sounds like they enjoyed themselves and probably changed their views on guns now.
If so, then their word of mouth experiences to other Lib friends may raise their friends eyebrows a bit and perhaps then go shooting themselves....and so on, and so on....

                      Well done!

Reminds me of when I brought my COD gamer friend shooting. I always would go off on how I loved Aks more than ARs. He was an M4 fan (in video games lol) and talked so much crap about Aks. When I took him shooting for the first time, I had him shoot 1 round in the mag for 5 minutes so he'd get comfortable loading and unloading. When I showed him the AK, he liked the AK better because of the simple controls.
Did you introduce him the the Special Ed bullet button?

I think you might want to rephrase this. Lolz. (2 way shooting range?).

I'm trying to do it every month or so.

I took a big group of non shooters out a couple months back- it worked out good but too many folks at one time 6 adults and 4 teens.

Then I took my sister and 19 yr old niece that had never shot before. I agree with the OP- the .22 autos are a hit with these folks...and why not? Who doesn't like shooting a .22? My niece did great moving up from a couple 9mm's; my M&P pro and a Sig 226. My sis went back to the .22 as the 9 was too much for her.

My niece shot my Kimber pro carry I won at an SCI banquet but the checkering bothered her hands. We ended on a high note having a shooting competition with the .22 again. Now my sis wants to buy something bad....

Taking my buddy and his boys out in a week or so. Who knew so many of my friends that don't own a gun wanted to go shoot?
