City of L.A. has a "no ammo purchase" law from Dec 24 - 31. I think it applies only to retailers under the jurisdiction of the city of Los Angeles (i.e.: not Culver City).

Yes too many celebratory gunfire during New Year in SoCal. Doesn't matter if you're in the valley or the freeway. Do they have to point their guns to the sky when they let bullets loose? Even up here in north Bay Area gunfire during July 4th and New Years can be heard.

Lots of documentation on people killed by shooting in the air. Problem is with the bullet coming almost straight down, if you get hit it's a good chance it's going to be in the head. This law won't do anything to stop it though. Most people that even own a gun have SOME ammo on hand.
