    Shooting on private property (farm)

My friend has a small olive farm out in the hills away from the city. Is it legal to shoot on his property?

If it is not in city limits and is safe I think you are GTG.

I think it may technically be within city limits but I need to check. Would that immediately make it not okay? Let's assume it's not for now.

Its best to consult the local sheriffs.
Sometimes city ordinance reaches far out of the county.
Sometimes they have a noise law regarding times you can shoot and times you cannot.
If its okay with the sheriffs, all you need is backstop, backstop, and backstop.

San Mateo county has laws against target shooting on private property but some areas out by the coast it is legal to hunt on your own property aslong as you follow the laws about shooting near dwellings and roads. IE u must have alot of land. This sucks because I have a friend with some land out there but we cant shoot legally on it. Amazing to own acers of land and not be allowed to exercise a constitutional right.

Will there ever be a case in court on it being illegal to shoot on private property?

LMAO! Are you serious? The clowns! Next time some Deputy questions the legality of any OLLs or shooting activity, just tell him to google it.

in santa cruz county not all unincorporated areas are ok for owners of private property to shoot on. i called the local sheriff and they had some special map they looked at and informed me that it was ok for me to shoot here as long as i obeyed the basics which includes but is not limited to shooting within 100 yards of a building. a hill behind your target may qualify as the your backstop.

Determine what your City or County Ordnance specifies.
