Did I choose correctly? Firearm Selection.

I recently completed my first purchase of my first four firearms and am in the middle of the 10 day wait period and also put an additional two on lawaway.

I am new to firearms but have done as much research as possible and do plan on getting formal instruction. The main reasons for buying is for defense and emergency preparedness so I wanted to buy a well rounded selection of firearms to have all my bases covered in any possible situation that may warrant the use of a firearm from self defense to hunting.

I was just looking for opinions on if I made the correct choices in my selection or if I made a mistake. Thank you for your advice and help.

    My first four were:
    S&W SD9VE 9mm
    Marlin 795 22lr
    Savage Axis 308
    PSA AR-15

    Additional Two on Layway:
    Maverick 88 12g
    Beretta Px4 G 9mm

Please excuse me and let me add I was on a budget.

There's nothing wrong with any of the firearms you acquired.

Congrats, that's a great start. It looks like you've covered just about every basis. You'll be adding more to your collection down the road. Everything you could possibly want to know about your Marlin 795 can be found here. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...95+mega+thread
I have a 795 and it's a fun little .22lr. By the way I also have a 10/22 and the 795 holds its own against my 10/22, gotta love the last round bolt hold open on the 795.

The only question that matters is:
            Do you like them?"
FWIW I think you made fine choices.

Great selection. You might wanna add a ccw gun in there some time later on down the road.

Next up a 1911, then a 22LR revolver, but good start.

Intrigued by the 2 - 9mms. I would have opted for the same pistol or the same line of pistols so you could share magazines and be familiar with the issues of one brand, be it Glock (17-19 for example), CZ; mine are Ruger P. Series.

So why do we have two threads on this? One thread of people telling you you did well isn't enough you need two?

They all put lead down range and make holes in things.

I have a Savage Axis .308, PSA AR and Maverick88.

                      Good choices OP!

                          Exactly.
The first four seem to be just about the cheapest models available in each of the categories that they cover.

I noticed the same. Definitely budget buys. They'll all toss lead down range though. The sigma has a horrible trigger IMHO, even after a trigger job. Mine lasted about 4 months in my collection before I sold it to help finance another purchase.

OP has a well rounded budget friendly collection made with one purchase that fills several purposes.

                              Not bad.

It took me a lot longer (I've been buying firearms since 1993) to have the kind of range session the OP can have after just one purchase and waiting period.
