    Process for selling a Firearm

I've been trying to find info on the steps involved in selling a firearm (handgun in particular) (I have one Posted in PP Sales). However I do not understand how the process really works, I've never sold one of my own handguns.

      some tips i can give...

make sure you bring your license. buyer pays dros. take money before (paperwork) transfer is initiated.

i recommend riflegear in fountain valley.

Well I know my vetting process is better than the Governments. But definitely will be going the route of a good upstanding US/California citizen. Thanks all for the input so far. Any gotchas that anyone knows of?

Post ad, meet buyer in parking lot, exchange gun for cash, go to strip club.

Oh wait...that's how it's done in Texas....my bad. In Kommifionia you need to pay a bunch of fees and register it.

                    Post ad with photos.
Buyer contacts you and you arrange to meet at a gun store to do the transfer.
Bring gun in locked case and tell gun store owner you're there for a PPT.
Each gun store is slightly different to what happens next. Quite a few inspect the gun and make sure it's unloaded.
Buyer shows up and looks over the gun and agrees to buy it.
Everyone fills out paperwork, shows ID, etc.
Most gun stores do not let you sell a gun in their store, so you'll have to pop out to the parking lot while the gun store is entering all the information into the computer to get your money.
Buyer pays $35 to wait 10 days to get the gun.
Take your money and go have fun.

-Post ad. Regardless of how beat, tired, and loose the gun is, it 'only few hundred rounds fire, LNIB'.

-Be sure to ask MSRP + 25% + any fees/taxes you've paid. If there are any mofications or add-ons, charge full MSRP + 25% for those as well.

-Buyer will contact you and say he'll take it. Then, 5 days later he'll say he can't follow through because his wife nixed the deal, he has no funds, his daughter needs shoes, or some other story designed to try and evoke sympathy, yada yada yada.

-Another buyer will contact you and ask if you can meet at his FFL, 157 miles away. If you decide to go, he may show, or he may not. He may cancel 15 minutes before, after you've driven 149 miles.

                      In all seriousness...

                      - Pick an FFL near you.
                      - Call the FFL first and ask what good times for PPTs are. This both shows you're being cool to them, and it may save you and the buyer lots of aggravation. Get the name of who you speak to.
                      - You meet. Visible abs are essential for both parties.
                      - Buyer inspects the gun. Since good, clear photos and an honest description were posted, this shouldn't be much of an issue.
                      - Money is exchanged, paperwork is done (hopefully smoothly, since you called ahead).
                      - 10 days later buyer has a new gun.

(Only potential snag is if the buyer fails his background check during that 10 day process. If that happens, the FFL will need to re-DROS the gun back to you. This is highly unlikely to happen, but it could.)
