Gun Safe: Placement in the Garage

I have a new gun safe arriving soon. Due to weight (500 lbs.) and limited space, it will be placed in my garage. Do I need to place something between the concrete floor and the bottom of the safe to keep moisture out? If so, any recommendations? I had thought about building a platform out of 2x6.

    Thanks in advance.

Get a dehumidifier for it. And bolt the safe down.

I use a goldenrod at the bottom, desiccant at the top.

When the delivery guys bolted it down, they placed it on some pieces of ~1/4" hard plastic to get it off the floor.

Roofing tar paper if your worried moisture. Then bolt it down.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.

make sure your safe is off the floor if you have your waterheater in the garage or any other appliance.

careful placing a safe in the garage. When I purchased my safe, I bolted it down in the garage and proudly showed it to a friend (who I trust) who laughed and said it was real nice of me to place my plasma cutter only a few feet from the safe, along with other tools like crowbars etc.

I ended up moving the safe into the house, didn't really have the space in the house but that way its not next to all the cool tools needed to break into it.

Given its relatively light weight (500 pounds isn't much) and likely thin metal, I'd highly recommend that you build a cabinet around it and alarm the doors. This way no one can get to it without setting off the alarm Once the alarm is activated, they will be less likely to sit and take the time to cut through it or take it.

You can also use moisture barrier that is use between wood flooring and concrete.

An added advantage is, it looks like a closet or storage, not a gun safe. Nobody will look twice at it.

So you mean the bolts are now easy for someone to get at with a sawzall from the outside?

ya..because criminals cant walk into your garage and back to your closet safe?..

If you are worried they will have lots of time..more then 5 minutes...then lock up your cutting tools. Only cutting tools I have are dull sawzall blades: )

Well I guessed about 5 minutes..link below says about 10 minutes... Like has been mentioned..dozens of times before..thieves want to get in and out. Any safe is better then no safe...you just want to make it hard and time consuming as possible to breach the safe.

Dull Sawzall blades will help : )

Maybe I should start making Sawzall blades that look new but are made from softer metal..hand the sawzall next to safe to waste dirtbags time trying to get in? Or make the trigger of fake sawzall an IED: ) hahah

About floor for safe..a moisture barrier would be good idea..plastic ect will work.

Liberty Safes says even carpet under it before bolting it down. Myself I would use a more resistant moisture pad...vapor barriers for wood flooring/tar paper for roofs..a plastic sheet ect will work.

If you live in a an incredibly dry area..probably bare cement will be fine..unless you have a water heater in your garage..which if and when it leaks will suck to unbolt your safe to dry underneath

Next to leaving it outside, the garage is the worse place to put a safe.

Do yourself a favor and hide it in plain sight. Go buy a used/broken fridge at a local flea market that is bigger than your safe. Gut the inside, and use the exterior it to cover your safe.
