Getting a copy of DROS from closed store.

So unfortunately I have to report a gun stolen. The problem is that I can't seem to find my copy of the sale. The gun store is currently closed how do I go about getting a copy of the dros?

i don't know a lot about this, but, im guessing you mean the gun store is no longer in business

i do know you can send in a form, i believe to the DOJ, or the BOF, and, they will send you back information on every firearm in your name...im not sure if serial numbers are included, or, if it would cover the information you need, but, i know there is a form they have you can use to at least get your ownership information

I'm with Teddy on this one, I don't know a lot about it but I think if its a long gun your going to have a hard time getting any info unless it was bought this year.

That's going to be tough.. I don't think the ATF will look up something that they can't even be sure is in the person's bound book. And since you don't know the serial number they will literally have to look through it line by line..hopefully this was a handgun that you actually DROSd and can get the records from DOJ which should be much easier. I'm not even sure ATF has a process for individual requests for serial number lookups.

OP never came back to thread so nobody knows what firearm and when he originally took possession and how. Would clear up a bunch if we all knew that..

Bottom line is you will not be able to get the info... The shop is gone, and BATFE will not go through old bound books.

Additionally anyone could be requesting that info, and how would they be sure it was actually you who were requesting the info. So no, you are out of luck.

Just call the police and let them look up the serial number when they make the report. The can run DROS records by name/DOB.

Rob, that's what i've done...plus I emailed myself all that information so i would have it in a place i can always access, even if im not at home...i've kept the information as a saved email

I emailed the DOJ through their website at 9am on a weekday and they called me back 2.5 hours later. I wanted to confirm how many PPT pistol sales I had made so I wouldn't go over the limit. Shoot them an email with your phone number and question and they will respond.
