Welcome to the forum! Just a heads up, there will be some frequent members that will make snide remarks about using the search function and offer little else. Just ignore them as there are plenty more here that will offer you their opinion. Like others have stated, there's a ton here and being a gun owner will make you realize how politics in this state are so backwards.

I would recommend going to a range that rents out guns. Then you'll have a variety to choose from and have first hand experience on the kind you like and dislike. Then you can go from there. Make sure to bring a buddy or your wife since they won't rent firearms to anyone that comes alone, or doesn't bring one of their own.

If you're interested in semi-automatic handguns, get them now because they're rapidly disappearing from the market here.

That is the craziest flow chart that I have ever seen.

That's because the chart is taken directly from California gun law.

Over decades the CA Legislature has crafted layer upon layer of the most screwed up, illogical, ambiguous mass of quivering frustration imaginable by man. Every legislator adding their little bit of law to it, in complete ignorance and irrelevance to the rest.

Then these laws are lovingly interpreted by the CA Department of Justice Firearms Bureau, which is staffed by only those most ignorant of firearms and their operation. The phones at DOJ are answered by the newest employees who make up answers to caller's questions without consulting anyone with any actual real world knowledge.

The three flow charts were created in self defense from bad information coming out of the DOJ. Quite a few CA Law Enforcement Agencies have been seen with copies of these charts on their walls; a rare source of reliable information.

And these charts are just one example of the work that CalGuns accomplishes on behalf of California gun owners. I suggest a donation of whatever is appropriate to your circumstance to the CalGuns Foundation to continue this work, to support the Law Suits brought on our behalf in combat against stupid, stupid CA gun laws.

A donation to CalGuns.net helps keep the lights on here at the forum. Plus you can get your name in green like the most cool kids on the block.

Stick around Jet, we need all the good folks we can get here.

Yes I figured all the insane rules had to have come from politicians instead of someone who has common sense.
