    Is this oil too old?

Found this oil/conditioner inside a tool box of a utility closet I was cleaning. I estimate it is from 1986. Smells awful (worse than Hoppes).

Question is does gun oil go bad? It seems to have good viscosity but that doesn't necessarily mean much (or should I just drop it off at the local gas station and dispose of it)?

Is it still sealed (plastic or foil seal under the cap)?
If so, it is probably still good.

Otherwise, any solvents contained in the product have probably seeped out/evaporated.
Just taking up space in (what is no longer) the second-worst small town in California.

It had two seals. Had to break open a foil seal and then a plastic suction-like stopper. Turned the bottle upside down with the stopper in place and no fluid escaped.

When in doubt throw it out .Then make a donation to a pro gun organization.
California's politicians and unionized government employees are a crime gang that makes the Mexican drug cartels look like a Girl Scout Troop in comparison.

Do you want to risk your 1911's by exposing them with this questionable oil? This stuffs are dirt cheap. I'd toss it.

I figger, oil is oil. Its used as a lubricant and a suspension medium. So long as it doesn't pour like molasses and /or is milky, it should still be good. It's not like you're gonna cook with it. I'm still using oil from the 80's without any major mishaps.

I’m still using military surplus gun oil that I got a stock pile of for free back in the 1960s.

It was in the ground for 50 million years before you got it.

If your weapon self destructs because you put old oil on it, your gun is garbage.

It's freaking gun oil. We're not talking Formula One Tranny Fluid here.
