    Lockdown drill today, student question

Today we had a lockdown drill at the high school I work at (basically for active shooters), coincidence yes, it was planned 2 months ago.

During the drill I answered questions for my class, one of the questions was "Why aren't teachers allowed to carry guns to protect us?"

I had to regretfully respond that we live in the wrong state and the politicians don't want us protected.

Then there were numerous comments (from my students) about how 0vomit and others were calling for gun control and how inappropriate it was right after the shooting and how gun control doesn't stop criminals nor shootings. All these grey clouds and yet a small silver lining, there is still hope.

San Bernardino County (Ontario), about 20 miles from the shooting.

Nope not a dream, I had to go over some tricky Calculus problems after that.

Sounds like you've got some intelligent kids in your class. Maybe there really is a small spark of hope for sanity in this up and coming generation.

Keep encouraging them in the right direction.

Well ... based on your response, you should expect to be fired by the end of the week.

Before you get terminated, teach them trajectory, bullet path, muzzle energy and muzzle velocity.

A: Because while the government wants you to be safe, they also need a certain number of dead kids to fuel their agendas.

Already done! Plus I take my fellow teachers and administrators shooting whenever I can.

Most of my students know I own firearms and go hunting, I took 4 days off in September to go moose hunting in Alaska, plus my son is in one of my classes and he has 3 firearms already.

That is a ray of hope. My guess is, your kids have not had their critical thinking adversely affected by liberal influences, and they can apply common sense.

My daughter (age 12/7th grade) told me her class had a teacher lead discussion on terrorism. Her classmates concluded that the only ways to stop terrorism is to kill the terrorists or put them in jail. Again, common sense prevails.

There is a growing interest by California school districts in revising policy to a response strategy that changes the traditional "lockdown" protocol.
This revised approach involves active observation and real-time communication, immediate evacuation of non-threatened areas (as opposed to complete lockdown and wait) and as a last resort, offensive tactics.
