    Lytle Creek experience needed

    Hi all,

Do you have to supply targets and stands there or do they supply them?
What target supplys do you all bring as well, staplers or tacks...ect.

    Thanks!

You can get a target stand from the office, you can also bring stuff out to shoot but you'll have to clean it up before you leave. Bring extra targets and something to attach them to the stand.

Next Sunday there's going to be a beltfed shoot there, come out if you can.

Keep a loaded pistol on you at all times... I dunno about now, but there have been a couple murders for guns at that range in the past.

          Better safe then sorry.

Lytle Creek is no longer a wild west shooting place, you have to pay to shoot and they have real live RO's.

The days of gangs doing drive by's on each other while practicing at LC are gone.

The only time I ever went to Burro canyon, gangsters were there with a box of clays and an AK, using it like a shotgun. Did not take one shot went home. I hear that it's cleaned up geting ready to merge with San Gabriel valley gun club.

IIRC, Lytle Creek RO's will not let you carry unless you are LEO, current military, or permitted.........

                    Lytle Creek Firing Line website

They sell extra paper targets and target frames (your typical frame: two thin pieces of wood, with cardboard and a paper target stapled onto the frame = $4 IIRC). It's cheaper to make your own. The target frame do not come with the range fee, it's a few dollars more and you get to keep it or throw it away when your done.

What you may need is a target holder to hold the target frame upright. As all you have available down range is a bunch of rocks to hold them up, and that really doesn't help if it's windy. If you have something at home or could fabricate a target stand with scraps of wood, I'd bring it along.

If you do bring plastic water bottles to shoot at, make sure they didn't hold household chemicals, ie detergents, chlorine bottles, etc.. they won't let you shoot those. Soda pop & milk jugs should be fine, your just required to clean up your mess afterwards. Clay targets are also fine.

The shooting bench area is some what primitive compared to the rifle ranges in LA county. At least they have a concrete pad and wooden benches to shoot from. No over head cover, to shade you. So, come prepared.

But, their attitudes regarding AWs, beltfeds, OLL, rapid fire, .22- .50 BMG, etc.. kinda makes up for it. The 300 meter range is a plus. For the most case their ROs are pretty cool and they keep thing safe. I haven't met any range nazis there.

It is now paved asphalt all the way to the range. Now that it's paved, it cuts the drive time by 5-10 minutes, compared to when it was just a dirt fire road.
