I made PVC stands similar to the ones above, but with 2" PVC. The upright sides only come up about 2 feet, cheap 2x2 lumber inserts into those and goes up as high as I need, cardboard and targets are then stapled onto the 2x2 uprights.

Replace the 2x2 wood as it gets damaged. No glue on PVC joints, holds together fine, breaks down for transport into a duffle bag. The base is wide enough to be stable on its own.

I could post some pics and measurements if anybody wants them, but I think you'll get the idea.

Barrage's range hack #1:

Always bring a kid with you. They're great for sending off 300+ yards out into the hot desert to set up steel plates while you enjoy some shade.

I bring a dirt bike and backpack for that, much faster

Plus 4, 4 foot 2x4's and a 5 foot cross beam.

place the 2 4' 2x4's on each one of the brackets. They will hold the cross beam. Put 2 screw in I bolts to the bottom of the cross beam like this;



Then hang 2, 2 foot sections of chain. Attach four quick links to each end of the chain like this;


Then buy whatever plate you want, preferably AR500 steel gong. Then shoot away till you're ready.

Minus the AR500 plate, they cost me about 30 bucks for the whole thing at the local hardware store.

2 old truck tires...free from tire shop.
4 carriage bolts/nuts/8 washers.
Cheapest welcome mat that Walley World sells.

Sandwich the welcome mat between the 2 tires and use a drill to make holes for the bolts to go through the tires and mat. (I originally used a hot piece of steel to melt holes but drill works best)
Drill 2 holes in the mat for the ar500 plate (mine are 10" rounds) and bolt it to the mat. Looks like a dually.

You now have a newb proof (no chains to cut) plate holder that absorbs spawl and won't tip over easy.
I have had to chalk the tires on occasion due to wind/rain making them tipsy. I used 2 pieces of old re-bar.

Any stand I make I destroy. Not worth making them when you can get them for free.

I use political campaign highway signs, all democrats. Pick them up for free after the June primary. Slap a shoot and C on them and blast away. The thin steel pole frames easily go into the ground, cleanup is super fast, pull it out and go. If you manage to bust a thin steel rod, toss it and get out another one.

I'm looking forward to picking up some Hillary signs soon. My old Obama's are all shot out now.

When we shoot out in the back of the property, I lay down a 10x20 tarp with tent stakes in each corner ... makes brass pickup a snap.

If we're out in the sticks somewhere, to make plinking more interesting for my son, we shoot a variety of reactive targets from balloons to shaving cream cans and 1L soda bottles. I always take black garbage bags to pick up not only our stuff, but trash others may have left behind.

For hanging steel, I prefer rebar target stands. They take a lot more of a beating and store in a much more compact space. These aren't mine, but I copied the idea. I used 3/4"galvanized pipe fittings at the top and ground the "legs" to a point at the bottom so they'd go into the dirt a little easier.

Making a PVC frame is better. No nails are needed and the only tool required is a mitre saw or a hand saw.. Replacing any broken pieces is much easier. I fill the base of the frame with sand so it prevents it from falling over due to wind.

Use zip ties to hold the cardboard in place and use tape to stick your paper target.

I used office binder clips instead of zip ties. They work fairly well.

empty .22 casing works great as bullet button tool. Only works on regular bullet button, not on Reddlock though.

The quickest and easiest way to make a target stand....

You need two pieces of rebar, two short lengths of 2" pvc, two furring strips, and cardboard.

Hammer the rebar into the ground, jam the furring strip halfway into the pvc pipe, and place over the rebar. Voila! Don't forget your stapler.

I don't have pics but I've used a t-post with plywood tie-wired to it and then either staple targets to it or get cardboard to use sticky targets with.

BLACK ABS

Making a PVC frame is better.

I picked up a set of AR500 plates and the rack was made from Black ABS Plastic... the stuff you use on sewer lines....

The ABS does not shatter like PVC... it will take many hits and a ton of fragments from steel plates destroying bullets... the fragments are SHARP- so if you hand plates, bring gloves...

ABS is about the same cost as PVC and is about as rigid.... but it does not shatter when hit.... a 10' section of 1 1/2" or 2" pipe is about $1.00 cheaper than PVC.... the downside is that it is drain pipe so 1 1/2" is about as small as they make
