    Ammo shipment mishap

I received some ammo I ordered for black friday today. My initial excitement has turned to disgust as I found my ammo to be improperly packaged and damaged. It seems the rounds themselves were moving with enough force to punch holes into the plastic shell holder that they came in depositing a number of small plastic circles all over the place. What I want to know is if this is something usual and if its safe to use still.

It does happen. Ammo packing seems to be hit and miss, even with the same company. I wouldn't have any fear of shooting it, as long as nothing looks bent or dented.

      ^^^That advice seems reasonable.

I received poorly packed ammo from Freedom Munitions...ya'd thought a company that mainly sells ammo would haved figured out how to pack it and ship it so it arrives in good shape! What came to me was a box that was too big and there was no packing to keep stuff from moving around, thus the ammo boxes broke open and spilled.

On the upside, a recent arrival from Cabelas came expertly packed and in perfect condition.

Pic doesn't work for me. BUT, I got a box of Minimags from Cabelas and the box was destroyed, and I was missing 3rds as they worked their way out of the holes in the cardboards shipping box that was like 127x too big for the shipment. I sent them an email stating I didn't appreciate the loose box banging around the other box that was fit to ship the Empire State Building and included pics of the damage and noted the missing rounds. They gave me an order credit for my next buy. So you may want to bring it up with the seller to see if they can maybe do something about it.

Just double check the OAL on a couple and make sure they're within spec...then "choot 'em"!

^^^^What he said. I order all my ammo on-line. Packaging is hit or miss and that is the risk you take. I have noticed that lately the packaging seems to be getting better. Maybe suppliers got some feed back and are responding.

I had ammo(match grade too) that was soaking wet with all of the cardboard falling apart and all the side boxes crushed like a soda can but it still shot great with no problems. I'd just shooting and have some fun.

Your ammo broke your picture. Doesn't work.

For loose style packaging its the retailers fault. If its packed well to prevent any shifting of ammo during transit but gets banged up then its the shipping carrier. 7/10 this year of my orders came banged up on 1 side due to the shipping carriers handling of packages. Hell the last 1 i barely pull in to the driveway and see FedEx literally just drop my package from chest height in front of my door. I told him stop right there as im gonna check for damages. He was caught like a deer in headlights. Sure enough 4 boxes were. Busted open and 2 rounds of 45 were pressed deeper into the casing. Sent my complaint in with picture and have never seen that dbag since.

I've bought thousands of rounds from sgammo and never had an issue with packaging. Do as other have instructed and spec them out but it's going to be shot up anyways right?

Yeah its all going to be shot up in the end so I guess it doesnt matter. Looking at the box itself it looks like they had wedged a piece of cardboard on the lefthand side so keep them from shifting left and right but they had a good 1/4" free space on the top and that was all it needed to do the damage. Completely avoidable if they had bothered to put a sheet of cardboard on the top to make sure everything didnt move all around.

Im not sure why the link isnt working but Ill see if I can re-up the pictures.

                          It happens unfortunately
Midway shipped me 2 325 rd boxes of .22LR, dropped in a box with 1 plastic air bag.
1 of the boxes broke open in transit
                          what a mess.
OTOH Cabela's wraps their ammo in plastic like a mummy. No spills there!

My best ammunition "trouble shipment" was when a major retailer mistakenly included a few boxes of new .416 Rigby solids in the order. When I called to see how to return it, they simply said to keep it! At the time, it catalogued out at $240 for the total of the three boxes.

This. Grab a set of calipers and check OAL (overall length) of some of the ones that poked through vs undamaged boxes. Assuming no change to OAL, you should be good to go.
