    Gun Storage in Safe Question

I know this is a newb question but how do you guys store your long guns in your safes?

    1) Do you store them one up and one down?
    2) Is this method ok to use?
    3) Would it warp the barels of the ones going down over time?
    3) Are there certain long guns you should NOT store pointing down?

All safes tend to shrink over time. I removed the "rack" from my safe and store all of my firearms in Bore-Store bags. These are grey colored, silicone treated fleece bags that go a long way towards preventing corrosion and the dreaded safe rash. All of my long guns are stored muzzle up. I doubt the barrel could warp, but you could damage the muzzle crown.

where did this barrel-warping nonsense come from?

If your safe is that crowded, up/down might help squeeze more in. But bore-stors are a very good idea. Their extra padding makes a world of difference, particularly if you like wood on your firearms.
but if your safe is getting that crowded you should time out on the gun purchases and buy a bigger safe with your next batch of gun money.

Muzzle up and if they are close to each other I store them in gunsocks to reduce the number of safe dings.

I have no issue storing them barrel down as long as the floor of the safe is carpeted so it doesn't scratch the end of the barrel

also I prefer the loaded shotgun in the front to be muzzle down because if it were to fall it would be pointed in the safe and not at me

Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Huh. I never thought of storing them muzzle down before. You may be on to something! I've got two inches of foam at the bottom of my safe...and am pretty sure they won't get damaged, and I would be able to fit them all in that way. I've got a few organizational projects for tonight!!!

Sounds good... Sounds like bore down method should be okay then.

Do they make bore-stores for ARs and AKs?

I have mine butt down and built a rack on the top shelf for my handguns that keep them vertical and ready to grab.

If you store them muzzle down; take a plastic cap from an aerosol can and place a pice of foam in it, then put the muzzle in it so that any oil, etc. doesn't stain your safe's carpet.
