Daughters doctor asked about firearm ownership

Took my two year old daughter to the doctor today because she is sick. Now we have blue shield and because of Obamacare our insurance sucks! $60 copay and they hardly cover anything. So they had to ask some questions about her background and her family and I have no problem with that. There were a few questions that I was asked that I didn't particularly like very much. They asked if there are smokers in the house which I kind of understand for health reasons but they also asked if there were any firearms in the home.

I did answer both questions truthfully and made it known that my firearms are locked away and my daughter had no access to them but I asked the doctor why they ask those two questions. His response was that the government wants to keep track of smokers and gun owners in case of an injury. I understand if there is some sort of injury they want to know what caused it but the government wants to keep track of smokers and firearm owners? I told the doctor look I'm not going to lie about either one but I don't see how it's the governments business whether or not someone smokes or if I have guns in my house to which I was met with a blank stare. Doctor didn't know what else to say back at that point other than "I believe in about 25 years we will have nothing but government run insurance". Needless to say I really don't want to go back to that doctor. Anyone else been asked this?

Maybe the plan is to make insurance so steep for firearm owners and smokers that no one wants to own firearms or smoke anymore? I wouldn't put it past them

I have refused to answer such questions. I refuse to put ink in any response. Then I go on the offensive and begin demanding they answer my questions as to why they are seeking information that is not relevant to medical decisions.

That's still playing into their game. You might as well answer the questions truthfully if you're going to go on the offensive about them considering they'll just take the liberty of inferring an answer from your response.

Why don't you guys just lie? It's not like any stand up American is under any moral obligation to be truthful with this government anymore.

My daughters pediatrician asked also about 8 months ago after 3 years of seeing her. I in return asked if she was wearing a thong or granny panties to which she got disgusted and asked why I would ask such a question. My response is it's about as relevant to my daughters ear infection as the question she asked me.

If the left knew how many AR receivers my 3 year old has helped me build their heads would explode.

                    OP,

Not sure why the doctor brought over the government business. It's my understanding those topics are a part of the standard survey any pediatrician goes through. My kid's doc just put in the way as "if you have a smoker in the house, you should bla-bla-bla", then "If you have firearms in the house, you should bla-bla-bla". She didn't make any notes on the survey either. I really don't mind being reminded of the safety rules, if this is a part of the mandatory routine. Moreover, the government is well aware of your gun ownership anyway.

LOL. You really should find another doc for your daughter now

Daughters doctor asked about firearm ownership

My pediatrician asked the same question. I told her the truth that I have lots and keep them in the safe since (1) I did not want to lied in front of my daughter and (2) I really wanted the government to amalyze this data to reveal how responsible most of gun owners are.

I get the same look now with this doctor as I did for all the meetings with my wifes doctor while she was pregnant after I asked when I put in the request for that extra stitch.

They are probably collecting data to be used for some kind of gun control study. I doubt it was to target you for confiscation. Nevertheless stupid questions get stupid answers. Since its none of their business anyway I would have just said no.

                              Hahaha that's great!

Glad to know I wasn't the only one that's dealt with this. And as someone else said why lie about it? I know California already knows exactly what I have. I was just thrown off by the question and was confused on why it mattered or how it what relevant to my daughters fever and coughing.
