I saw a special on this last year. They interviewed some of the men that were there and participated. They said they wished they had not done it and were not proud of it. I was surprised by that.

They might have thought that because the incident suffered a very common after effect of armed rebellion. You get rid of something bad and get something worse in it's place.
Less than six months after their victory, the veterans were rent by divisions. Four of the five leaders of the GI Non-Partisan League declared in an open letter on January 11, 1947: "We abolished one machine only to replace it with another and more powerful one in the making."

It probably was. But then, we have a somewhat friendly regime. Deluded, corrupt, and incompetent, but friendly.
