    Safe cracking

Well you all know how it is when a parent passes.
Well we had a niece thinking she was entitled to anything.
Her and her mom had a locksmith changed the combo, thinking no one would be able to move it.
I have the safe but princesse won't give up the combo. This 19 year old is not going to control this situation when my wife has POA.

The safe is just 5/16" single wall steel.
I was thinking about cutting through the bottom to keep from having to flip the safe any more then I have to.

Does anyone else have any experience in this endeavor?
I would like to save the safe if I can.

A good lock smith can crack any safe. No reason to start cutting and destroy the safe.
With all the gun safes around, people losing combinations actually happens quite a bit these days.
Ask a LEO, safe dealer, or gun shop for a recommended lock smith. They'll know.

Contact a master locksmith and have them crack the safe?

Show the POA to the locksmith.

Typically, POA is only in force when the person is alive...the Will kicks in to replace the POA at the time of passing.

I don't want to get into a bunch of details.

All the locksmiths I talked to said they would have to damage it anyway.

Yup. Once a person is dead, power ofer their affairs passes from a person with POA to a trustee if a trust was established or to an executor if a will was completed or to a probate court/ referee if no will was left.

Get those power tools warmed up and get at it!

Actually a crowbar with the safe on its back will work just fine if it is a cheap safe

                  why open the safe?

if you do, then everybody will blame you for all kinds of things, missing or not. keep the safe secure, and closed, until the court gives you instructions.

Sounds like this is probably a good idea.

A few high quality cut off wheels, a descent grinder and the ear pro from your range bag should get you in within 10-30 minutes depending how big of a hole you are going to cut.

Personally, I wouldn't try to cut all the way through to reduce the risk of damaging what is inside. Cut the outline of your hole to just before it breaks through with the grinder. Then get out a power drill and drill a large hole into a corner of your hole. Get a pry bar and you should be able to tear the rest of the hole out. Or use a sawsall to finish it up.

                      Watch for sharp edges.

                      Finally, post pictures on Calguns.

A good safe shop will have an automatic dialer.

AFAIK when a locksmith "cracks" a safe.. he will just drill out the 4 bolts holding the locking mechanism in place...

Sounds like 10 min and a sawzall will cure all that ales you..
