I want to take some classes

Im looking for recommendations for instructors/classes I can take to better my skills. I dont consider myself a novice but I would like to start with a beginner pistol class and work myself up. I looking for someone/somewhere who offers classes using pistols, rifles, and the combination of the two. What/who do you guys recommend in the Orange county area.

edit: I just got approved for CCW (picking up next week) so finding someone who also offers advanced CCW training would be a plus.

If you are willing to travel, Frontsight is a good, cheap place to learn a whole bunch. If interested, there are lots of people here who will cell you a membership. If you don't mind spending more, you can go to Gunsite, but I would save that for when you are ready to get more advanced training.

    Good luck

Thanks Bert. Both frontsight/Gunsite are on my bucket list but for now I would like to go somewhere in Socal. I think there are some good classes locally like what FT3 offers but would like to hear from other members.

                    Hopeton-

                    For those folks who
                    -Are not the best marksman
                    - Have some bad habits (trigger finger staying on trigger, flinches Etc.)
-Have not been taught how to safely draw from a holster
                    -Have not shot from Concealment

front sight is a great value for those within a 4-5 hour drive

How does one build their skill to take a multiday day team/breaching class with Max....

Front sight does have drawbacks... but as everyone has a budget... they offer a good value... just opt out of their marketing calls....

How many of the people here, who bad mouth Front Sight, have ever taken a class there? I doubt if 99% have.

The first thing you have to understand is that there are very few universal truths when it comes to the martial arts. And lets be honest, that is what we are talking about here, a "Martial" "Art". Not that long ago if you were not teaching someone weaver stance you were considered to be all but sentencing them to death.

We need to ditch this idea that there is only one path to firearms enlightenment and embrace the concept of many paths, all with their own valid points. 4 point draw vs a 5 point draw is not a line in the sand. The question is, do they teach you good stuff in a safe environment and will it expand your skill set.

Also there is something to be said for the immersion that comes from attending a school like Front Sight. I just wish we had something like that closer to the Bay Area.

As to Artemis. Um... that is an experience that I think everyone should have at one point or another. For those of you who do not know what they do there, well... I can be a sort of shocking experience.

I'm a NRA instructor, a BSA instructor and a CCW instructor. And to say that certification means absolutely nothing is little more then trolling. Yeah, a cert and $5 will get you a small coffee at Starbucks. But the classes are worthwhile. You simply can not advance your skill set as fast on your own as you can when working with others, especially experienced professionals who can help steer you down a better path.

Bruce Lee famously said that Katas were a worthless wast of time and that people needed to abandon the old methodologies of training. But this was like Mozart saying "Sheet music is worthless and archaic, just write the songs in your head". Bruce started with the Katas like everyone else but then being the protege that he was he went far beyond them. Not everyone can jump on the bike and just ride, some people need training wheels to get started. And anyone who understands the concepts of education and how to teach someone should be able to grasp that.
