So this has confused me for a long time. Can I have 6+1 at the range in a pump shotgun? I know I can't hunt with that much but what about target shooting somewhere like Mojave?

Shouldn't be a problem till you start going to shotgun ranges(trap, sporting clays, etc.) when you'll have to load only 1 per target in the air.Comment

Various ranges will have different rules. Most clays ranges only allow you to load one or two rounds but may or may not care about magazine capacity. Although it is true that shotguns are generally limited to three rounds when hunting things like game birds, the story may be different for non-game animals. You need to check the regs.Comment

As long as it is legal to target shoot, no worries.
If you were on BLM land during hunting season, not sure... I would check with the BLM office.Rule 1- ALL GUNS ARE ALWAYS LOADED
Rule 2 -NEVER LET THE MUZZLE COVER ANYTHING YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO DESTROY (including your hands and legs)
Rule 3 -KEEP YOUR FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER UNTIL YOUR SIGHTS ARE ON THE TARGET
Rule 4 -BE SURE OF YOUR TARGET AND WHAT IS BEYOND IT
