glad there were no guns in there. I wouldn't want to shoot one without proper gunsmith inspection after that fall.

Several days later the bolt was rusted shut but I guess the fouling wasnt TOO bad.

Good to know. I guess that if you have that same brand of safe and your home is broken into by guys using an industrial fork lift, then I guess your guns are not safe.

We had better add a new dead bolt to our doors just in case we get visited by guys with a fork lift.

Well that explains the lowered Chevy towing a forklift that I saw.

The more I am googling and youtubing safe cracking and seeing how useless they all are...the more I'm just thinking of getting one, filling it with PVC and steel pipes and pennies, and then hiding my guns under a bookshelf or dresser drawer. Let them take the safe, I'll keep my guns!

The thing is... all of the safe cracking videos I have seen on Youtube require the safe cracker to be able to tip the safe on its back (not easy when you have it anchored with concrete bolts from the inside), have a very spacious area to work in with 6 foot crowbars or axes (not easy when you have it anchored to concrete in a small area such as a closet where leverage is minimal), or of course, the ability to get it 50 feet in the air with a forklift.

I'm not under the delusion that all safes are really safe, but I think the location of the safe will make it a lot harder for a thief to get into based on the Youtube methods.

Sometimes a DECOY will save your valuables. If a crook breaks into your home and sees a safe, he'll spend his time trying to break into the safe for the "valuables" rather than looking in your broom closet for your rifles. I would still like to build a safe with a double door, a door INSIDE of a door, so when the thief works up a sweat to open the first safe door, all he will see is another safe door! I think I would come home to find him crying on the floor in a fetal position.

If you really want to piss off a crook, take a safe and drill a hole in the bottom. Fill the safe with concrete and let it harden. Now place the safe where a crook can see it and be sure to set up a camera to record the video for YouTube!

Here's what I do now that my guns were stolen once:

I keep very hot hand loaded ammo in the gun safe for most of the guns in there. If someone steals my safe, they will get all this free ammo with the free guns. Hopefully a free disfigurement also when they touch off one of those bombs!

No doubt that was my first real idea. Load up the safe with reloading powder and then put stickers on it that say, "WARNING, SAFE FULL OF GUNPOWDER AND PRIMERS, NO SPARKS"
OR "PELGRO EL EXPLOSIVES NO MOMZE" or something like that.

If you tip my safe I'm pretty sure the relockers will defeat the safe cracking meth heads in my hood. Good luck I'm a big boy and I can even make it move if I push my body weight into it.
