    Public shooting range near Sacramento

Fellow Calgunners, I know this spot but I have never been there ?.
    it's Spenceville range
Do I need an SUV to get there or just my sedan car?
I will appreciate any advice about the place.
    Thanks

I've never been there but I know you don't need an SUV. I personally won't go there based on the stories I've heard. Best bet would be to head out to Sac Valley Shooting Center if you want to shoot out doors.
    **** your feelings!

Many horror stories about Spenceville. Its best to go during the week, otherwise you will be with the pothead gangbangers shooting all over the place.

I have friends who go and I've always been told to go during the weekdays or early mornings before the rif raff show up. After a certain time it can get sketchy.

You might want to check out the outdoor range in Lincoln as well. It's a nice range with targets out to 200yds I believe.

I was out there last Thursday and it was fine, just get there early in the morning and pick the very right spot and you'll have plenty of range to shoot.

Spenceville: what to say? I use to go there with friends from my Dept to shoot our .50 Barrett. Unfortunately, I really don't like it because of the people who lurk around it at the times I've been there. Its entirely open, no rangemaster, no control. A lot of shooters trash it and bring items to the range area that are really not appropriate as "targets." More than once fires have broken out because of metal jackets sparking off rocks near dry grass on the hill at the back of the shooting area. And people like to party and drink sometimes. A real good recipe for disaster is a whole lot of beer, lack of common sense and loaded guns.

If you go, be wary, keep an eye on your vehicle if its crowded - and be aware of what people are doing on the spaces to your sides and behind you. Most people are considerate and courteous - but that place seems to beckon to the few who aren't (sometimes).
