I only consider my safe(s) to be child-proof. I have no illusions about the security of a safe that I can move against theft. To prevent theft, I tell as few people as possible that there are guns in my home.

One scenario that does worry me is the covetous individual at the gun range who finds some way to get my address from the membership roster. Can't really conceal what I brought to the range.

Security is in layers: secrecy, obstrufication, difficulty of access, difficulty to manipulate, time allowed access, alerting\alarms, reaction response of police\owner. So a lot of what is said here is important and is all a part of layers which make you more a hardened target than not.

You could have a costco safe so difficult to find and have access to versus a true tl30 amsec parked outside in your driveway. It all depends on x,y,z... Most home dwellers have only a few options to run on.

For those complaining on price of safes, just do math on what you are protecting. Also for those claiming insurance, be sure you really are covered correctly as most policies only carry to a smaller amount for certain expensive items so that they can sell you additional riders to cover extended values. Some of those basic amounts not in a rider won't cover a lot of the gun owners I see here on this forum.

They can still probably do it upright.. It will just take more time. If you're out of the house for a while and they manage to get in without alarms going off, you're SOL.

          Yup, think layers.

You should have at least a 3/16th" shell, a lot of safes are 10 gauge(1/8"). I work with steel all the time and with one of these http://www.airgas.com/browse/product...63&WT.svl=6263 I wouldn't need an axe or break a sweat.

remember seeing that some thieves used a guy's own angle grinder to cut his safe open - talk about kicking a guy when he is down

tinfoil on - I lock mine in my safe now - tinfoil off

Mine has a hidden cam on it, movement generates a notification on my cell, and a response from my local defense department. (Me with the shotty.)

First you have to know I even own the safe, where it is, whats in it, avoid the dog, open it, load the items to a vehicle down the driveway all while not waking me up!

              I say you have a 5% chance. 10% tops.

If someone wants what you got they will get it.
First line of defense a home security system.
video system hooked to monitoring station that sends real time pics so dispatch of PD can be done. Some PD will not respond to burglar alarms but if they have actual real time proof they will dispatch.
Dog but dogs are easy to take care of
BOLT your safe down in a awkward area. Mine is in a place where its actually framed in and you have to remove the framing of the house to get it out. ( its staying if I move)
                  last
                  get insurance.
yeah Im gonna make it as hard as i can physically for anyone to steal from me but if someone wants my stuff they are gonna get it. I cant sit at home guarding my safe all day. if youre really worreid abotu it get the heaviest most expensive safe you can and park tank with no motor over it
