The California Roster of Handguns, Year 2015

Being in the market for a new .22, I did some research looking at reviews of the .22s being produced today, watched a few videos on YouTube, etc. and decided on the Ruger SR22. My cousin has one and both he and his wife/kids love to shoot it.

Turns out, this gun is banned in California now!

To be correct the pistols that aren't on the Roster are NOT "banned" you can still own, sell and buy them. Just can't get one new from a dealer. An out of state relative (of the appropriate kind) can even GIFT you an SR22 for your birthday or Xmas or just out of the goodness of their heart.

You're correct. I am using the term "banned" to mean "banned from purchase" from a dealer. In essence, preventing future ownership.

Yeah Ruger stopped selling semi auto pistols in CA back last year, 2014. It was a pretty big deal. They let them fall off the roster.

Was wondering when some people would notice.

Thank you for helping me improve my experience and direct my attention towards those who are worthy of it. God bless your toxic little souls.

As I pointed out, that isn't the case. Unless you are a person that refuses to buy anything "used".

i share your frustration with the california handgun roster. nevertheless, Steve_In_29 is simply clarifying. unless what you've posted was corrected by another member, there are those that would read your post in this thread and believe that these handguns are not at all legally available in california, which is not true.

Some people are sticklers for terminology. Kind of like Grammer police. The intent of your post was clear, and I certainly share your frustration

To answer the question, in 5 years the roster will be overturned and we can have many more choices!

                  OR

There will not be much left besides revolvers and a few semis, no new, improved good stuff.

I'm with you on this. It does amount to a ban of sorts. Just because it doesn't outright forbid it, does not mean the limitations are not meant to be a ban. What about in 5 years when none of the current roster guns are still being made in their current form? There will not be any new ones to take their place due to the microstamping fictional technology.

While I am in agreement that it WILL suck, that would still NOT be a "ban" on ownership/transference of guns that aren't on the Roster.

"Sticklers for "terminology"? This isn't about some misplaced comma or calling a mag a clip. Words actually have meanings and to misuse them serves no ones benefit.

Though after all I guess there is no more harm in the OP misusing "ban" then there is when the Anti's misuse "automatic weapon" to describe everyones precious semi-auto AR now is there? Who cares right?

What's frustrating, is that last time I checked the Ruger P95 was still on roster. And they don't even make that thing anymore.

He's not clarifying to be a jerk. New shooters should and need to know that "off roster" guns aren't illegal to own.
