Yes these are getting cheaper and cheaper as well.

My gf's parent's house is gated off and is set up with cameras in Monterey Park but thieves have still been coming onto their property, and neighbors as well, breaking into cars. The perps are jumping back fences early in the morning.

Even after reporting them and providing video to the police, the guy still came back another time and even brought a female accomplice so the sight of cameras may not always deter but might at least catch a glimpse of their faces.

Luckily, they haven't lost much besides some CDs unlike the neighbors who left a laptop computer in the car.

i dont live in oakland .,.,boarder of fremont (6th safest city in america) and union city.,.,.,investigation is county wide( alameda) and not as important as the 100+ murders they have there..,.should deff have a better safe.,.,.,but i am a victim.,.,.

I feel your pain. A similar thing happened to me in 2004. Thieves got in and pried open one side of a Homak double-door cabinet with the handguns in it. I've never felt so sick and wronged at the same time.

Fortunately, I could afford to start rebuilding the collection. But after getting 3 guns I decided to buy a safe (Liberty fire rated) just to stop the gray hairs from sprouting with all the worrying.

At least they didn't seem to have harmed my cat. If they had, I'd be seriously eager to collect a debt from them besides my guns.

The PD here was not keen on the idea of trying to get prints. But he did manage to get some evidence and several clear prints that weren't mine.

Trust me, nobody is saying otherwise. I'm sure many of us have been victims at sometime in our lives. Hell, when I was in elementary school I had a wallet stolen out of my hands by an older guy, maybe junior high or high school, on a bike and while I chased after him pulling on his shirt he still got away.

My parent's home, when I was living their, was burglarized but luckily we didn't have much for them to take.

What many of use are saying is that their is room for a person to be MORE responsible. Being gun owners brings with it more responsibility in regards to safe gun handling. Another responsibility some of us feel that comes with the territory is preventing them from being stolen and used against others. Easiest way is to invest in a safe.

When you spend thousands on guns, it isn't hard to invest between $500-$1000 for a decent sized safe.

Sorry to hear about the theft of your guns, I just hope they don’t end up being used to hurt someone.

Union City PD or Fremont PD told you that the theft of several guns and a bullet proof vest was a low priority because of all the murders in Oakland? Union City PD or Fremont PD have nothing to do with investigating the murders in Oakland. The fact that they are in the same county (Alameda) means nothing. They are independent police agencies.

Hope you had all of the serial numbers for the guns so they can be entered in the Automated Firearms System as stolen. That way, if they show up somewhere, they can be returned to you.

If nothing else, this should be a lesson to everyone, GET A SAFE and install it properly. Think about it, for the price of what a couple of kmk’s handguns cost, a person can purchase a decent safe and prevent something like this from happening. What would you rather do, have a safe and a collection that takes a little longer to acquire, or have a larger collection that is easily stolen?

Ouch, sorry to hear.
I am looking at buying a second quality safe and splitting up the collection so at least it will require twice the work go get everything. I don't like the idea of spending the money on another safe but it could help me keep what I already own.

collection had grown too large to stay in the homak safe which would have easily been detatched from the wall and carried away.,.,they were not in the safe.

Sorry for your loss man, but I gots to ask: Not a single one of the guns in your substantial collection was in your safe? What's the point of having a safe then? Why weren't any of them in it?

It's unlikely that your safe would have been carried off either -- not by your typical smash-and-grab burglar-types, working in broad daylight, in a typical suburban (dense housing) setting... Too much visibility.

I think you learned an expensive lesson. For the price of just one of the guns in your collection you could have bought another safe. But then maybe, they STILL would have gotten all your guns, and you would have been left with 2 empty safes instead of just one, since apparently you like to have safes around the house, but you don't like to actually use them...

ETA: Sorry for my obvious irritation -- I really am sorry for your loss -- but all those guns are out on the street now, and will undoubtably be used by criminals to cause some harm, all because of your bad judgement. All you can do at this point is learn from it. I hope you do.

Agreed, my new M1A loaded I just bought cost me $1595, My $1495 last year, and protects all my long guns plus some pistols.

Get a safe. Mine is not only bolted to the floor but also the wall. It's not comming out even if I move....I'll get another one.

I like American Security. As long as it's fire rated. Should be able to find one for $1,000 or less.
