    CCW Class in Orange County?

Hi guys! I recently picked up my M&P Shield 9 and would like to start the process of getting my CCW (I want to put both my Shield and my Glock 23 on it). Can anyone recommend a class that's approved for the CCW license?

Also...The cheaper the better lol Money is a huge issue. I'm a student living solely off of student loans with no savings, and I've just joined the Navy and I'm trying to get my CCW before I leave in 5 months so that I will be able to carry when I'm home.
    Any recommendations would be great!
I heard of a class at Riflegear, but looking at their website, it seems its only for Texas concealed carry.

Greg Block is a little more expensive than average, but he has the fastest classes.

Thank you for that! Looks like most are around $200... Yikes, I think I'm going to have to wait till I start getting paychecks from the Navy because I looked at my budget this morning and found that I have pretty much nothing to spare until I start getting some income LOL sigh....
I just thought that it was harder for military personnel to get a CCW than civilians because the government thinks we are all crazy or something lol so I thought I had to get on that before leaving for bootcamp... One of my Petty Officers told me that wasn't the case and it was actually easier to get a CCW if you're in the military. Hopefully that's true!

My question is have you done your interview yet?

Not yet. I haven't started anything towards the CCW whatsoever. I thought you were supposed to take a class first before doing anything...?? lol

                    Wrong.

                    1) You have to request for an interview first, your interview date will be months away. Request here: http://ocsd.org/about/info/services/ccw

                    2) You need to provide a good cause; self defense will not work anymore

                    3) After your interview your interviewing officer will either tell your to go do your livescan or your good cause won't cut it. If they tell you to do your livescan, then that means he/she feels your good cause is good enough. There's no guideline of what's being accepted. Most people say anything besides self defense will work.

                    4) After your interviewing officer tells you to do your livescan, they will also tell you to hold off on training until they get your results and send you a conditional approval letter to move on with training. Livescan will take 1-3 months to get back to them. At this time, you can either play it safe and wait for the approval or just take the class beforehand and send it in. I haven't seen a case where someone took their training beforehand and had trouble getting their CCW.

                    5) After everything is completed, your IO will send your file to the LT for the last stamp of approval, then you'll get an email to pick up your card.

This whole process took me about 7-8 months from start to finish. Requested my interview Aug 2014, got my interview date bumped to end of December, and got my card in April 2015.

You doing active duty or reserves? When I first read thread I figured if active duty no way you would have enough time to do this in time. Well if you get stationed in the USA if in a gun friendly area say like Norfolk VA where there is a huge naval base you may be able to get a ccw there.

Of course that will be complicated as well if you live on base or on a ship. Obviously if you get stationed overseas it's not going to happen and in many areas even participating in the shooting sports will be difficult of not impossible. I really missed it when I was in the Navy stationed overseas and it was one of the reasons I decided not to make a career of it.

Ohhh OMG that was SOOOOO helpful! Thank you!! I'll have to remember that for when I have the cash! If only I could get started on it now >_< I have 4.5 months before I leave. I don't know what excuse will work though. I thought that my excuse that I drive for Lyft and Uber in very unsafe areas in Long Beach at night after school (I'm a CSULB student but I commute from Mission Viejo) might work, but I don't know.
May I ask how much you had to pay in total for everything? I'm assuming about $200 for the class... what other expenses were there/how much were they?

I hope that for a time I get stationed in California because that is my main state of residence so that's where I want my CCW to be applicable since California won't recognize another state's CCW permit ugh.. lol

Gosh, I never thought about being separated from my guns! I mean I knew that being stationed overseas, I wouldn't be able to have them. I'd always have to leave them here at home, but I never thought of just how much I would be away from them. Gun ownership is definitely the reason why I cannot live abroad permanently though... sigh... I'd love to live in the UK, Ireland or Japan, but I wouldn't be able to have my guns. The US seems to be one of the most free countries for firearms ownership.

The process will cost you around $600 start to finish. But like everyone else said, there may be no point in starting before you know where you'll be stationed. A CCW in CA doesn't help very much if you'll only be in CA a few weeks a year.

Oh, and Uber/Lyft won't be good cause for a permit. Both companies have policies against drivers being armed.

I guess I'll just have to move to riverside someday lol I have no idea what else I could use as my excuse other than general self defense. Ugh...
