Wilson Combat Speed-Chute Round Butt question

To get a Round Butt mag well MSH on just how much do I or a gunsmith have to grind of the frame, if any to get it flush? Would you still be able to throw on a regular MSH later? I'm pretty interested in the RB mag well but I am wondering about this?

This is the mag well I want to fit.

So, you don't want to buy this extended mag well. You want to grind the frame of your 1911 so it has a round butt?

    Not practical.

I suppose you could get someone to weld material on the frame and grind that into a round butt. Not sure you would save anything from just buying this attachment and it sure as hell will cost more.

No, I do want this mag well but I heard that it requires you to grind the frame down a bit to match up. It's like a mini bobtail from what I've heard. I'm not sure if it is just a drop in part or if the frame would poke out a little on the bottom. Sorry, the way I worded it was confusing.

        Wilson's website says:

Gunsmith fitting and permanent frame modification required for installation.
Flat mainspring model will drop in most guns, Round butt models will require frame contouring.
Some fitting required to blend magazine well to pre-beveled frames.

        Part 627:

        Part 626:

From comparing the two MSH parts, it appears the 627 you're looking at requires the corners of the frame need to be contoured to match.

Thanks man. That's what I figured. Do you think a normal MSH would still work with the frame after the modification? I know it would probably look funky but it should still work.

Yeah I think it'd function as normal.

In the other thread on MSH it was noted you'll need different grips or have to modify your existing, and this slightly rounded MSH, plus fitting your frame...

Seems very costly for an aesthetic change that you don't seem committed to make.

Maybe just get the 626 part so you don't have to modify frame/grips. If you don't like it you can sell the flat MSH magwell more easily.
