    Factory refinish and gun value

I was in the For Sale section and saw a Python with a pretty chewed up finish. The gun has ridden in a holster, A lot.

i was wondering I that pistol were to be refinished by Colt themselves, would it raise or lower the :

    A) Price of the Python
    B) Collectibility

It might increase its value if it's a real beater. If the patina is only normal wear the refinish might deminish its collectability. Collectors prefer original but if it's bad enough Colt refinish would be prefered to Joe's gun shop.

Joe's gun shop that doesn't do it regularly, yes; but there are MANY restorers/refinishers out there that do a WAY better job than Colt, and if going forth with doing so on a Python, it may be worth the cost.

Plenty of horror stories out of Colt's refinishing nightmares, botching the job, with a few posted right here on Calguns.

I do not recommend Colt to refinish the gun, even though they are a manufacturer and manufacturer of the original gun. The Colt of then is not the same as the Colt of now. Colt will ruin that gun for sure.

the % of finish considered when shopping guns means % of "original" finish. a reblued gun has 0% original finish.
