Just got back from a trip to New York, and I want to recommend a range a little north of Philly: Classic Pistol Indoor Range
Very friendly staff, good selection of products, and they rent out automatic rifles and submachineguns. I got a hold of an mp5-sd, which I've been wanting to shoot for the longest time. Rental for all their automatic firearms are 50 bucks an hour (yeah kinda expensive)...but it's the rounds that add-up really quickly
They're located a little over an hour from Newark, and well worth the trip out there if you can make it. They even let me record myself shooting the mp5, which I'll try and post if I can figure out how.
Check the sign before leaving the bay:
Sorry so blurry, it's from my cellphone and they were about to close. I just had to get a pic of a sign telling patrons to holster their guns before leaving the bay. Flying into Philly next time, so I can carry
