    Noticed this about my Cougar

it handles all ammo well, even the HD 9mm Hollow Points that i have, but...

i've noticed the Hollow Points when loading seem to leave scratches on the feed ramp

my worry is that i could run into the possibility of failure to feeds...granted the hollow points do have a sharp type tip, not rounded like my fmj ammo, still, its the only gun i've noticed this with

am i over thinking a minor thing or not

Is it steel where they are scratching? Or aluminum? Maybe just needs a slight polish to keep it to a minimum. Or go with a lighter hollow point to reduce the size of the hole/edge

Actual "scratches"? Not just smear of lead or copper on the ramp? Damn, must be some really hard bullets to scratch the ramp.

this could just be me overthinking it...the feed ramp looks like it has a coat of something on it and maybe it's just scratching the paint or whatever the hell it is

it's actually a black feed ramp just before the actual barrel got this picture online...gives a good picture of the ramp im talking about...maybe its to be expected

Probably just a light transfer of copper to the finish.

It's not scratching steel with copper/brass/lead. It might leave a little smear of lead or copper on the feed ramp, but it's not scratching it. Ignore it and keep shooting.

^^^I'll agree totally with this. ^^^ As far as ignoring it goes.

The pic you posted shows soft metal transfer from bullets or cases onto the ramp. And for the sake of clarity. The "ramp" itself is aluminum like the rest of the frame. The finish is a very hard passive oxide coating. AKA, anodized.

The ramp in the pic, is a lot rougher than that of my Mini Cougar. Which was polished slicker than snot before the frame was anodized.

BTW Teddy, thanx again for the Cougar mag info.

The reason you are seeing it with HPs is that due to the hole they are longer then a FMJ of the same weight.

A properly angled feed ramp (when they designed the weapon) wouldn't have this issue but even as is it will still work reliably.
