How do commercial finishes, cerakote type stuff or any of the new NiB type, hold up compared to a melonite finish? Thinking about having some work done on a slide but can't decide if I want to give up the factory finish to do it. Or do you guys know of anywhere that does melonite type coatings? Appreciate any knowledge you can impart. Have a great day.

Melonite is not a coating. It is a surface treatment that changes the steel on a molecular level.Oppressors can tyrannize only when they achieve a standing army, an enslaved press, and a disarmed populace. -- James Madison
The Constitution shall never be construed to authorize Congress to prevent the people of the United States, who are peaceable citizens, from keeping their own arms. -- Samuel Adams, Debates and Proceedings in the Convention of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 86-87 (Pearce and Hale, eds., Boston, 1850) -
FYI you CAN coat over Melonite with Cerakote and get the best of both.
Melonite is a surface hardening process but is not all the rust resistant compared to Cerakote ..... which is pretty much the most corrosion and chemical resistant coating on the market but still durable and comes in over 100 colors.Comment

How'd prep work go for that ? I'd imagine the increased hardness of the melonited surfaces would make getting a blasted surface a bit more difficult.
