    Commercial slide finish question

How do commercial finishes, cerakote type stuff or any of the new NiB type, hold up compared to a melonite finish? Thinking about having some work done on a slide but can't decide if I want to give up the factory finish to do it. Or do you guys know of anywhere that does melonite type coatings? Appreciate any knowledge you can impart. Have a great day.

Melonite is not a coating. It is a surface treatment that changes the steel on a molecular level.

If you want something better than cerakote go with tialn. It's a pvd coating that's bluish in color and harder than nails.

FYI you CAN coat over Melonite with Cerakote and get the best of both.

Melonite is a surface hardening process but is not all the rust resistant compared to Cerakote ..... which is pretty much the most corrosion and chemical resistant coating on the market but still durable and comes in over 100 colors.

How'd prep work go for that ? I'd imagine the increased hardness of the melonited surfaces would make getting a blasted surface a bit more difficult.
