Hello All,

Last week, I took my cousins out shooting for their first time. I gave them all ear muffs (which I've had great experience with), and I tried out using only ear plugs. My plugs either did not seat well, or didn't offer adequate protection for my ears and I've been having problems ever since. The hearing in my left ear was gone for most of the day, and it's been coming back...but slowly.

Long story short, it's been 7 days and my hearing isn't all back...the volume is there, but some sounds still sound like I'm under water.

Does anyone else have some experience or insight on what's going to happen with my hearing? Is this permanent?

I'm a little anxious right now, because I'm just 30 years old and am afraid that I've done some permanent damage after one bad choice of using the wrong kind of hearing protection.

Could be permanent, time will tell. Hope it comes back for you. That's why I use both muffs and plugs.

Dam I'm lucky I've gone to my friends ranch before and we all forgot out early plugs but we were all ok after a day or two. Ever since I stay with spares in the car just in case.

Update #2:
After more than 2 months, I'm just feeling like my hearing is back to normal. All of my frequencies are back, but now my ears are much more sensitive to loud noises.

Lesson learned. Feel very glad to have my hearing back.

The ringing in my left ear is also 95%+ gone.

Glad to hear that it doesn't seem to be permanent!

This^^^^ EXACTLY!!!!!!! Between 40 years of shooting and 30 years in a machine shop environment, inside my head it sounds like I'm either standing in a field of Locust, or under high-tension lines about 95% of the time. It's called Tinitis and it isn't reversible. Go get your hearing checked NOW and don't repeat this situation again, EVER!!!!!
