HD Vepr 12 Storage?

So yeah, been trying to google this and almost all HD cali info is about pistols.

I want to ask, with no children (or expected to have a child in area), what is the storage rules for a SG? Specifically the vepr 12.

Does it need the cable lock? A DoJ safe would also suffice right (thinking of getting a biometric safe but that is a few months down the line)?

Almost everywhere says cable lock, but they also mention it in the same paragraph as if you have a child accessible to it. I live alone and would like to know if that is applicable to me.

Most places do seems to say if it was in a safe I do not need to lock it.

And most places seems to indicate that I can store ammo (in the mag) with the gun in the safe, but not so much on if it was okay to store it with the gun in a case at home.

So anyone got some actual rules about storage of both the gun and ammo?

And I tried the search function and found it to be wanting....

Just thinking out loud here... what's the point of a locked gun for HD?

Except in LA, since apparently that's a place where criminals will let you open the safe or locks before they kill you.

well, if the law says I have to store it in such a way to be "safe" I got to, and I just want in interim solution till I get enough fun money for the safe, which i think will solve everything (unless its a slow unlocking safe but all things says its a nice safe).

If there were no children and no money in my house, the shotgun would be stood up between my mattress and nightstand while home, then I would utilize the sheedy cable lock to secure the gun to the frame of my bed while away.

The State does not require that you lock you your gun, a few municipalities do. Just keep the guns away from children and prohibited persons.

Read the info from that link for full information, but to summarize you have no requirement to lock up your firearms except if you have a prohibited person or children and they don't have permission from parent/legal guardian to access said firearms.

If they are your kids, and you are giving them permission to access the firearms, seems to me they don't need to be locked up either.

Ah ok excellent then.

I would still get the safe because the gun needs a better place to live in, but not as urgent now.
