If I am purchasing a used handgun from a gun shop, do I have to wait 30 days before purchasing another (new) handgun?

If it was from the dealer's inventory, yes. If it was a consignment sale, no unless the next purchase will be from a FFL inside the City of Los Angeles.

So "NEW " isn't relevant to the 30 days, just who is selling it. i.e. Dealer vs. PPT
      Got it.
      Thanks!

        Right.

        Count the parties involved:

        2 - Buyer and FFL - 1 in 30 applies.

3 - Buyer and seller (including consigning seller) and FFL to handle the state-mandated paperwork - 1 in 30 does NOT apply, except at FFLs inside the City of LA.

Note there is no reference to the gun itself.
