80percent arms jig review

After much delibiration on deciding what jig to get I settled on the 80percent arms jig.

First impressions out the box was that the jig was solid and well built. Everything fit well together and with no wobble.

I started on the lower with a regular hand drill and cheap router. I also did not have vise so i used a c clamp which actually worked out better than i thought. I couldn't wait to get a vise.

Started drilling into with a hand drill and using wd 40 as lube. Went pretty smooth until i forgot to check the stop collar. About two of the holes went too deep. But i didn't notice it till the end.

Milling was way easier than i thought. Hardest part was going slow kept wanting to speed up but it was making the end mill chatter and jump.

All in all it was a great experience. I learned from my mistakes and will make adjustments. Can't wait to get another project rolling.

Nice... I have so many questions. First of all, thanks for the review.
1) Does the jig only acomodate your standard forged 80% lowers? Or can it also acomodate beefy billet 80% lowers?
2) Do you think a drill press would make things easier if working on more than a few 80% lowers?
3) When buying a router (I don't own one), does it need to be plunging kind?
4) How good are the drill bits?

I was thinking of buying both the drill press and router by Skill.... kind of cheap but I think it would get the job done....

1) i actually didn't use a forged lower. I used a billet one from ares armor inhad laying around. They have a list of who's lowers work. Which are most except like two.

2) a drill press and vice would have definitely have made it easier than it already was.

3) i didn't use a plunging kind. I used a regular trim router. I assume a plunging one would add to the simplicity though.

4) drill bits seem solid even for the mistakes ive made. End mill has been used on 2 billet 7075 lowers and i think i can get one or two more out of it.

Thanks OP for the review. As outlined in the manual, be sure to measure the drill stop collar after each hole to make sure it has not slipped. Fortunately the small divots on the bottom won't harm anything.

1) The AR-15 Easy Jig accommodates all known 80% lowers except the NFA 80% lower which is much thicker than forged lowers and most 80% billet lowers.

2) A drill press is not needed. But if you have one, it may be less effort for drilling the holes.

4) The end mill in our tooling kit is custom made for milling aluminum. With proper care and lubrication you should be able to finish several lowers. 7075 will dull the end mills faster than 6061.
