    AR Lower

Does an AR lower being brought into CA need to have a bullet button installed or can I move to CA with a stripped lower?

Do I have to specify the caliber when registering or can I decide later?

If they have to be caliber specific - can the caliber be changed later?

I want to register several lowers in a mix of calibers and pistol/rifle configurations. That should cover my wants for the foreseeable future

if there is no upper it is not a semi-automatic anything

it would not be wise to bring any ones that have the name of a banned rifle

No need to register it at all.

If I want to configure one as a pistol, I think I read it needs to be registered?

Does the caliber / configuration come into play then?

I believe it has to be initially registered as an AR pistol lower.

Someone should chime in here with more knowledge

First, you need to make sure the lowers are not banned by name in CA. Check the flowchart for that info. http://www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf Not sure on the pistol lower. If you were already a resident, you would have to do a single shot conversion. But, having the magazine outside of the pistol grip makes it an assault weapon. I think you'll need a bullet button and an upper, but not certain.

I would highly suggest registering all of them as pistols unless they've been rifles before. For that, a BB is a good idea. They're pretty cheap.

I second that, register them all as pistols.

This is no longer true. Now virtually all firearms have to be registered when moving them to CA unless you're just visiting.
